Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a silent cooler for a pentium 3 but, nowadays, I don't know which is better....

I've found these in ebay:

https://www.ebay.es/itm/310844229036?_skw=coo … %3ABFBMuILXgKZl

https://www.ebay.es/sch/i.html?_nkw=disipador … nc&LH_PrefLoc=3

Any suggestions are welcomed!

Thanks!!

Regards!

If you want a performant, yet silent S370 cooler, buy the biggest S370/462 heatsink you can find that takes a standard fan size (60mm typically, 70mm sometimes, 80mm rarely) and then couple it with a modern “silent” fan. For extra quietness you could either 7v or 5v mod the fan, or even run it through a fan controller.

If you want something that works out of the box, the suggestion above is good.

Zalman also had this really strange beast, the CNPS6000-Cu, that could be used with (almost) any fan you like. Might be hard to find today though.

Note that socket A coolers are compatible with S370 as well. There were a few quite beefy models with 80mm fan for those power hungry late Athlon XP:s.

Otherwise, if you have access to a 3D printer, you could just equip any old heatsink with a shroud for any fan size you like. Done it myself a few times with fantastic results. Designing it is a great first 3D modeling project. I don't have the energy to tear down a retro rig to snap photos right now, but here's a screenshot of my 3D model:

The attachment shroud.jpg is no longer available

If you happen to find a heatsink that's 54x54 mm I could of course upload my model for you too.

Get the biggest socket A capable heatpipe cooler (maybe mod a 939 cooler onto it) and run out without fan. Make sure there are some nice silent fans for airflow in the case.

Stuck at 10MHz...

Just be aware the heavy Socket A coolers may be a bit too heavy for the retaining tabs on the s370 if the mounting clip doesn't havde the full width to utilize all tabs.

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎

Another vote for the various Zalman CNPS coolers (the 6000 is overkill for a Coppermine like this, the 3000 or 3100 would be fine too) I have one paired with a Noctua 120mm fan blowing onto it on my Tualatin 1400S. Completely silent and nice and cool.

You're absolutely right. The smaller variants might even be better when the target is silent operation with a fairly low TDP CPU, rather than handling lots of generated heat. They might leave room for a larger fan that could be run on lower rpm 😀

Thanks a lot for all the messages.

I would like a zalman cooler but in my second hand platforms there is not for socket 370. 🙁

The Spire cooler, how is it? Is worth it? (https://www.ebay.es/itm/326438354618)

I've found other model, a Coolbox cooler (https://es.wallapop.com/item/ventilador-cpu-b … lbox-1054547797) . It has a 80mm fan.

Those look like pretty generic SoA coolers that will also fit on So370. Replace the stock - noisy - fan with a new quiet one (I like Noctua Redux models for this, but there are more options out there) and you should be good.
