no but i've run DSL and TinyLinux on one. I never thought of trying BeOS.

Yes please!
I made a ready to go install of the free BeOS 5.0 Personal Edition here:

I hand soldered two them and I love them. What features would you like? I'd certainly like to add a builtin HIDman - having to use PS/2 peripherals on the weecee is kinda a pain
I could probably add that into the design I did for my KiCad interpretation. I’ve added it to just about every other project I’ve worked on recently 😉
Have you made your KiCad weeCee project files available or would you mind sharing them? It doesn't look like it got pulled into rasteri's github repo.
I'm planning a build based around the SOM304RD module, and I'd prefer KiCad instead of Altium. Integrated HIDman would also be nice, if you've done that or still plan to.
I'll make a new thread about my build when I've made some more progress (or if there's interest in discussing the design).

I’m building a new rev of it currently. Once that’s tested I can send you the gerbers. Give me a few days to finish assembly and testing.
@snipe3687
If you can, can you add an FC1307 chip to the IDE interface instead of the inbuilt SOM one? so we don't get the yellow exclamation mark on IDE in win98?

I actually really like that idea. Let me do some testing and then I will make a new revision of my project and add that in.

I just finished assembling and testing last night. everything is working fine except I made an error on the wiring of the wavetable header. will correct that then should be able to share the files.

That's good, thanks for the update. Looking forward to seeing your design and it will be helpful for my design as well.
I've been in touch with Spencer at ICOP to order a SOM304RD-VI and dev kit, should be ordering soon and able to do some prototyping and testing.

no kidding? I've been wanting to get my hands on a dev kit, but I could never find one. I just ended up making my own.

For me, at least, it was as simple as clicking the "Send Inquiry" button on an icop.com.tw product page listing what I wanted to purchase, explaining that I was building a DOS gaming PC inspired by the weeCee. After a little bit of back and forth, I was sent an invoice and a credit card approval form.
While I ultimately plan to design and make my own more specialized/application-specific dev kit as part of my prototyping process, I figured it would be easier to start with the one from ICOP, at least as a reference/test-bench system.
I also sent an inquiry to vortex86.com to ask about the Vortex86DX and Vortex86VGA. I got a response from Gary, saying that this isn't recommended for new designs and suggesting the Vortex86DX3, which is a SoC with integrated VGA; I don't know if there's a SOM304 or similar module with the Vortex86DX3 (looks like ICOP did make one, but it's no longer listed on their site), but I've asked Gary about dev kits and modules (and I'll probably ask Spencer at ICOP as well), so we'll see if a Vortex86DX3 weeCee-like may be reasonable.

A bit of a heads up about the Vortex86DX3 is that you won't have the ability to underclock it, so it'll be stuck at 1ghz.

Oh, too bad. Not great for older games then.
I have one of the WeeCees that @NachtRave assembled back in 2022 (SN NR0202011, to be precise). When it first arrived, it had an issue that I was able to fix with @NachtRave’s kind help—it turned out the SOM wasn’t mounted properly and needed to be pushed down a little. After that, I successfully booted into the Windows 98 setup. However, I put the project aside for a while as life got in the way.
Now that I’m back on it, I wanted to finish the Windows 98 installation using the included SD card. This worked fine at first, but after completing the installation and installing some drivers, the system stopped working. Upon reconnecting it, I saw the ScanDisk error check appear, but once that finished, it wouldn’t boot into Windows 98 anymore.
I then reflashed the SD card with the original image it came with. However, now it refuses to show anything on the attached screen—not even the POST screen. The blue LED on the SOM is lit up, as well as the LED on the Ethernet port. The keyboard LEDs also flash briefly when connecting power.
Besides the CRT shown in the attached image, I’ve also tried various VGA-to-HDMI adapters, but still no luck.
Do you have any suggestions for what I might try to identify the cause? Please bear with me, I don’t have a lot of experience with hardware troubleshooting. I’m also attaching a few pictures. Please note that I accidentally removed the yellow reset button wire, but I believe this shouldn’t be an issue (I plan to solder it back on once the WeeCee is working again).
Thanks in advance for any help!

Get a new SD card and install win98 quickinstall, it's a new way of getting a good enviroment up and running
Thanks, I’ll try this! But are you implying that it’s expected for the WeeCee not to output any signal if there is no (or a faulty) SD card installed?

oh, sorry no. It should display something. It's just that you said the problem appeared after the SD card was reflashed.
I suppose if the SD card was electrically faulty it could stop the system from turning on

Hmm, I guess something else is faulty then. I tried with other SD cards and also no SD card at all. In all cases, there’s no VGA signal, even though the blue LED on the SOM is on.
I will revisit the steps that NachtRave suggested when I had the initial issue in 2023, which includes checking the VGA wiring from the pin headers to the connector, verifying 5V power, and eventually removing the reset button. I’m attaching the photos from 2023, just in case they might be helpful for anybody facing similar issues.
If you can think of anything else for me to verify or rule out, please let me know. I appreciate your help!
