hi, i build the mini card. with the provided 386_2DRV.BIN is working. but if i try to flash new bios from www.xtideuniversalbios.org its not booting (27c64, 27c128,27c256 burned with T48). what am I doing wrong?

Have you remembered to configure the downloaded BIOS with XTIDECFG.COM before flasing it, as per the instructions?

All BIOS binaries available here must be properly configured with the configuration tool XTIDECFG.COM before flashing/programming to ROM. In addition to configuring the BIOS file for use with your specific hardware you must also make sure the file is checksummed by saving the file to disk as that will create the padding and checksum required for installation in a computer.

hey wiretap is there a way to buy a completed one from you? i just came across this and would like to get one of you're boards no one else seems to make them and i really dont want to spend $70 on a xt-ide for the 8 bit boards with stuff i won't use because i have 16bit/32bit ide onboard

Unfortunately I do not build these boards and sell them. I wish I had the time to though. Anyone else can build and sell them as they wish, so hopefully another member can build a few to sell. Otherwise, they're really cheap to order the PCBs from JLCPCB to build your own.

I like the simplicity and elegance of the new built cards, but there's still a lot of used options.

If your system does 16 bit, there are still plenty of affordable ISA NIC cards. Maybe not the $10 price point so much any more, but there's a lot of options under $25.

If you have to have an 8 bit card, maybe you could hijack an old MFM controller and jumper it to disable the controller?

Don't have a chip programmer and just getting the boards to me would be 20$ shipping i could use the one that you can flash in the pc maybe sell me a kit? I can build it just don't have all the stuff

I guess prince of Persia did fit on a floppy

At the risk of sounding greedy, is it possible to do a larger rom?

Yes, you can add a driver letter and it works perfectly with other drivers. Regarding the size, I think 8MB is already a good size, 128 64K banks, since the HDDs were 10MB, but I think it would be possible to extend the 32MB limit of FAT 32 and DOS 3.1.

The best price I could find for a DOC was $10. I can live with that but finding a card that takes DIP32 ROMs seems like it might be more challenging.

IIRC there are 5V UV EPROMS that go up to 4MB, but they're 42-pin DIP. Obviously you'd need a GAL or similar (like what is shown on the DOC) to handle bank switching.
(The ROMs are also 16-bit so you need a couple of demultiplexers to turn them into 8-bit).

A small sram and another eeprom can do the bankswitch dirty work.

Write your logic output as the byte values inside the eeprom, then catch the switch with mem-mapped sram. Use the sram's data lines to drive the address lines on your eeprom, and the eeprom's data lines to drive chip select lines.

Cheaper, but slower. In theory though, gives you many more outputs.
