I am collecting the best gfx-art for each machine...so it would be helpful to get the original files.
On Amiga I have to convert from PCX/PNG to IFF and this does not work correctly in most cases.
It seems that the colortable is distorted... so getting the original files is best.

example from one of the most awesome "Deluxe Paint" pixel artists

DPaint was important, but it wasn't the first one.
There had been Graphicraft, too. Early Amiga art had been done with it.

Completely by accident I found this bombastic picture via DiscMaster:
HAERMMM.png
Apparently, this was used as a logo by a demoscene group. The signature at the bottom says "Ravenloft", but a quick search brought up no results apart from the AD&D game.

UPD: So I used the magick of Google and it turns out the original is a painting by Jeff Easley called "Harem Treasure":

But there's still a lot of skill in translating that image into a slik-smooth 256-colour palette.

Interesting he's an oil painter! 😁 My grandma loved to paint using oil, no comparison to aqua colours or water colours.

Another fancy technique was airbrush, I think. Use of a compressor was needed, though. Normal airbrush paint cans are empty in no time.

Indeed. I assume it starts by using a custom palette, just like with natural colours.
Though the challenge might be mastering use of additive colour mixing (light) vs substractive colour mixing (paint).
A lot of paint programs such as Photoshop still don't get it right.
