I've got a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4300 that has got an issue: if it's hot, shutting it down leads to it being unable to power back on.
By "shutting down," I mean either holding the power button for a force shutdown or selecting "Shut Down" in Windows – both give the same result.
I'm always using an external power adapter since the battery is no longer functional.
Here's the breakdown:
1. If the laptop is cold, it starts up and works just fine.
2. Even after a brief use while still cool, a shutdown followed by a power-on attempt works normally.
3. The problem arises after extended use, when it gets hot. After a shutdown, pressing the power button results in the "Power On" light coming on, but the screen stays black with no boot-up (My System Commander menu has a message beep so I can confirm that). If I have patience, eventually, it cuts its own power, briefly flashing the Toshiba logo (<0.1 sec) right before doing so.
4. Leaving it to cool down solves the issue. It returns to case 1, and boots up normally again.
5. During regular use, as long as I don't shut it down, there are no overheating warnings, crashes, blue screens, or spontaneous restarts.
It's not a major issue, but I'd like to troubleshoot it. Any ideas where the problem might lie?
