I have an FIC AM39L motherboard that has VIA/S3 integrated graphics, but I can't remove the driver.

I had issues installing the driver available on Retroweb as the install process asks for the original CD halfway through and I have to skip a load of files. I've tried versions from other sites too with no success.

When I reboot and go into Display Properties>Settings my whole system locks up.

I've tried removing the Driver files it links to in Control Panel and removed all the S3 software in Add/Remove Programs, but when I reboot it always finds that driver again and fails to install it properly.

I don't actually need the integrated graphics, I have a seperate card I'm using, I only installed the driver to make the yellow ? go away in Device Manager! How do I just get rid of the driver from Windows alltogether so it just have the device with no driver attached.

I've got a VIA CLE266-based system which had a similar issue when I installed a dedicated graphics card.

If you want to disable the integrated graphics, press F8 during boot (after the initial BIOS screen but before the Windows 98 logo appears), select Safe Mode and let it boot into Windows. Then, go into Device Manager, select the integrated graphics and check 'Disable in this hardware profile'. After a reboot, you'll be left with a red cross showing over the Unichrome IGP icon, something like this:
