according to datasheets, chips 82c435/436 is an ega chipset, while 82c441/442 is a vga chipset.

i have seen some 82c435/436 cards with both 9pin and 15pin header in china, but don't see any ramdacs on the card, so i believed that they are just ega output converted to vga header.

but then i found something like this:
https://wiki.preterhuman.net/STB_VGA_Extra
as you can see, it has a ramdac on it to output analog vga signal. but does it support the 320*200*256color mode? and has anyone tried these cards?

435/436 chipset can't do the standard 256-color mode because it doesn't have the chain-4 bit in sequencer register 4 (among others). It's probably just another EGA card with VGA monitor support.

That brings me back to the so called 16 color VGA cards that were actually just super EGA in that you could use a VGA monitor
