That would be a 70R ferrite bead.

Thanks all,
I will pick up a 70R 100mhz ferrite bead.
How about the ceramic caps at C589 and C544? The card works without them so I'm guessing they are filter caps. I found a vague reference, I think here on Vogons, to 1nF 25v in an 0402 package. Would that sound right?
Many of them look to be the same, a brownish or reddish color.

Size 0603, capacity 10nf or 100nf, it doesn't matter. These are filter caps.

Parts came in from Mouser.
Just confirming for future users that STB Voodoo 2 1000 and V2 Black Magic both indeed use size 0603 ceramic capacitors. I used 100nf on the 1000 and 10nf on the Black Magic. They both seem fine!
I used the 70R 100mhz ferrite bead at location L7 on the V2 1000 that sdz suggested and I have the color red has been restored!
Thanks for the contributions here.
There are two versions of the power supply unit in the Diamond Monster 3D II: 3.35...3.37 volts or 3.51...3.52 volts. I wonder why it is done this way?
One thing to be aware of when replacing those regulators is that different card revisions have different 'voltage divider' resistors (R99 / R100??) which may change the regulator's reference voltage to something other than it's base or label value. So it pays to look at that area as a unit.

I guess you missed my direct link to exactly that

I did miss it! Wish I'd have seen it though because using a solder blob would have been a good test before ordering components with a shipping cost 100x the price of the component. 😜

I have attached to this post the official 3dfx Voodoo2 4440 reference design schematic.
Thank you very much!!! Knowledge is power!!!

I uploaded this ISO that contains most things you need to know to repair or manufacture a referens Voodoo2.
This way people wont have to guess what values a component has or what a pin on a chip is for.
There are full wiring diagrams for the Voodoo2 card and pinouts for all chips (FBI, TMU), reference PCB's and much more.

Original daa file

To download the ISO just click the download arrow up in the top right corner, you can select "Or continue with the download only" at the bottom of the login prompt to just download with no account needed.
If someone has an Internet Archive account i suggest putting it there too and maybe vogons driver archive.
Noteworthy docs are
/Plot/v2_4400.pdf
/Layer/layer.pdf
/Doc's/5342.pdf
There is much more in there.
EDIT: I updated the links with the ISO zipped because it takes way less space then, I also added the daa file that the ISO was made from.
Very nice, this looks like original documentation. Thank you, this will make repairs much easier. There are even components prices as they were in 1998 😀
By any chance, do you also have documents like this for other 3dfx cards?

This "3DFX-Voodoo2-MFG.iso" is a goldmine. The plot / v2_4440.pdf is the full schematic for the voodoo 2 reference design 😁 That means we now have the original schematic for the Voodoo 1, Voodoo 2 and a reference card schematic for the Voodoo 3. The other one I'd love to see at some point is the Voodoo Banshee.
The straps mentioned on page 4 of the schematic go into full detail compared to the midway voodoo 1 schematic and backs up what Postman5 has covered in this thread: Сonfiguring Voodoo with strap resistors
I have a broken card that doesn't just have a simple memory fault and I've given up on it for a while, in the software directory there's a memory test / board testing utility which diagnoses faults including testing the FBI and TMU memory. So I'm probably going to give this a try quite soon to see what I can see.
The attached document for the ss1test.exe mentions a monochrome VGA is used for diagnostics because it writes diag messages to the monochrome display adapter memory space - I want to figure out how that works.
I'd be happy to upload this to the Internet Archive for you.
edit: ah the v2_4440.pdf schematic was already shared, I didn't realise that was the official one!

Testing the software sounds like a good plan.
Maybe you could do a guide or howto on it if needed.
I dont have any broken V2 cards atm, fixed a bunch before I got the docs.
I do have a Broken V1 but I also know one of the address lines is shorted on the FBI, lifted the pin and short was on the FBI not the PCB so FBI is a dud, to bad because that card is in mint estetik condition and I dont have a donor FBI or source for one.

Ah I know your pain on that one. SDZ was able to source replacements from alibaba but I haven't got an account on there.
I had an Orchid Righteous 3D that had a broken memory connection on the TMU and spent *a rather long time* diagnosing it only to realise that the fault was the TMU itself and not a memory chip or bad trace. Thankfully I had got a cheap generic Voodoo 1 card that I had sort of got working but it had really broken VGA output and in fixing that it broke entirely so I took the TMU from that and now my Righteous 3D card is fixed 😀
Since the tool is called ss1test and not ss2test, perhaps it could work for a voodoo 1 as well
