I can't get this game to run any way on Windows 7. The base version outputs a VC++ error. Patching with the official patch, the error goes away but then its just the normal "Racing has stopped working" error.

I have done some research where people said it's hard to run, but little information on how they got it to run. Can anybody shed some light?

Have you tryied using dxwnd for windows 7? I couldnt find any info regarding pc requirements of this game, but i think is using a very old version of directx. Sorry never heardof this one before, have you also tryied doing the compatibility mode under windows 95 after doing the patch? I belived this game was released in 1997 so it is more Win95/98 era time. If you have a Windows xp machine you could try it on that one, there are also patches for that system too. Sorry not of a big help at all from me🥲.

Tried all the 3 things, doesn't work. The game doesn't like XP either for some reason.

This game was a nightmare. Following Vogons rules, I would just share the extent I can:

Base CD

  1. Doesn't install

Base CD + setup fix

  1. Setup installs registry and few files at C:\Racing\
  2. Game is portable for installation at any folder and any CD location.
  3. Game runs with XP d3drm.dll
  4. Video doesn't play
  5. The game only pans to the left and never centers. If you go right first, it centers.
  6. Only 1 map is unlocked, which isn't even the default map

Base CD + setup fix + official patch + XP patch

  1. Makes the videos play, but crashes on race launch, or runs in black screen
  2. Makes all tracks available
  3. Makes the game hardcoded for CD to be at C:\Racing\ and game files at C:\Racing\Racing\

Base CD + setup fix + official patch + XP patch + some RIP downloaded from the Internet, overwriting everything
(I know this makes everything pointless, but I would have to check each and every file to determine what differentiates the game)

  1. Makes the videos play and hardcoded path, so XP patch is already installed
  2. Longer second video is likely replaced by the first video.
  3. Missions play
  4. Camera pans correctly
  5. With XP patch, two files named fpslimit makes the game run slow so that you can catch up with AI. Game should work with it removed.

I can't compare the difference of the "RIP/illegal" and "proper" version of the game right now. Just the info that there is one which put everything correctly as the game needs. Any XP patch available is likely half baked for usage!

I got the differences figured out. Problem is, where do I upload it?

The patched executable probably utilises some resources in other way, hence I had to add a few music files, few bitmaps and a texture? file which is deflated.

I was trying this game and it even gives hard time to run even on my Windows 98Se, I try everthing, the patches, the dxwnd, everything but the game just opens the menu, when Ingot to play it let me go thru the resolution option screen but after that and choosing any resolution it just goes back to desktop.

Another issue is that it promts you if you want to install directx5 ,when you press yes at least in my case it does nothing, just restarts my whole system.

Maybe It could be that is buggy with cards with over 4mb of vram. Any way Windows 98SE with the original CD file, does not work at all, no install no nothing just black screen and back to the desktop after choosing the resolution in game menu option.

I gave up running the game on Win98. Probably it was designed to work in Win95 only.

You think it will work in windows 98 or its a fix for only Windows XP and up OS?

Technically it should work on 98 as well. You can consider checking
