Awesome, thank you . The patch works quite good, I was even able to fix the stuttering when running on Windows XP by using Riva Tuner Statistics Server and setting the max FPS to 30. The last piece missing is getting the glide support up and running. The guide at https://www.myabandonware.com/game/sega-rally … hampionship-a63 is quite good and helped me fixing most of the issues. It also tells you how to add the D3D patch properly. However, in order to get even better graphics you need to the following
After you installed the game - install Unofficial Direct3D patch, simply copy the files to the game folder [...] That patch is based on rare Direct3D version of the game, it adds the better compatibility with modern systems [...]Then install dgVoodoo (2), copy D3DImm.dll & DDraw.dll from MS/x86 folder, dgVoodoo.conf and dgVoodooCpl.exe into game folder [...] If you don't want to play with dgVoodoo, you can also run the game with DDrawCompat or cnc-ddraw. Simply do the same steps but use DDrawCompat or cnc-ddraw instead of dgVoodoo
Using dgVoodoo 2 or DDrawCompat is not an option, since they don't support Windows XP, cnc-ddraw draw doesn't seem to work either. Also dgVoodoo 1.5b doesn't give me better results.
Does anyone know how to get the 3dfx experience when running on WinXP?

I think you are confused. There is no "3dfx experience". Sega Rally Championship is NOT a glide game. If you read carefull: "... Then install dgVoodoo (2), copy D3DImm.dll & DDraw.dll from MS/x86 folder, dgVoodoo.conf and dgVoodooCpl.exe". The glide dlls for glide games are not even copied.
The dgVoodoo is used with only for direct 3d to achive higher resolutions. I saw this on some patches for Colin McRae 2.
So if the game works in 3d for you in WinXp, then that is all of it.

Thanks a lot for the clarification! You're right — I probably am a bit confused 😅
Unfortunately, dgVoodoo 2 doesn’t seem to be supported on Windows XP. Is there a way to get the same result without it?
Really appreciate your help — thanks again!

Just a heads-up, the higher-res assets for the non-D3D game, and improved engine noise (and possibly Game Over sound, but that's just for D3D version) don't seem to load on Windows 10, unless you use WinXP or Win98 compatibility mode, it'll just pull assets from the CD instead. If you do use compatibility mode then custom controller settings may not work.
I suspect some tinkering with Windows Compatibility Toolkit could remedy this, but I'm not so much into tinkering now 😁
