hi! i'm finding it difficult to get a straight answer across multiple searches - i'm trying to verify that the Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium HD (SB1270) has the same onboard/internal/hardware(?)/roland(also ?) midi synth that the original PCI X-Fi boards had, or something essentially the same. i'd also be interested in knowing if any other of the PCI-E X-Fi cards have something akin to it - none of the other specs particularly matter to me :^) this forum kept popping up with the best/closest results to what i was searching so i figured i'd just post. my apologies in advance if this is the wrong subforum!

i would also be interested in a 1:1 soundfont if it exists somewhere as an interim solution :^P
also, any help/info is greatly appreciated of course!

I used to have a PCI X-Fi and it sounds the same to me, both come with the same soundfont set of 2, 4 or 8 MiB.

All real X-Fi based on ca20k1 and Ca20k2 chips should have the same midi synth capabilities and hardware. Titanium HD and Titanium Fatality Pro are some examples.

You should be able to extract the sound fonts from Daniel_K's driver here: https://danielkawakami.blogspot.com/?m=1

The synths should be the same. The difference is partly in the opamps which gives different sound profiles and can have higher or lower SnR as well.

And using an external DAC can make that mostly a moot point.

I will say that the distorsion characteristics of the SB0880 (PCIE) vs the SB0460 and other PCI X-Fi cards that I have, over S/PDIF, are measurably slightly better, though that is almost certainly a completely inaudible difference.
