Hi,

This week I've bought NBA Hangtime for PC. As a fan of NBA JAM and after playing it on Mame, I supposed that PC version would be a great version of the game. As I have Gravis Grip pads, I tought that it would be a great experience but... it's good, but no great.

At first I thought that's because I'm using a LCD monitor, but after changing to a CRT monitor, the framerate is the same.

The manual shows that pressing alt + enter you can change game resolution. Nothing more.

After installing it in the PC, the game starts in windowed mode 320x240 resolution. In this mode, the game is smooth as butter. TOP QUALITY.
But when you change to other resolutions... every resolution is 640x480, so game is almost 60fps but it's not as perfect as in windowed mode.

These are the graphics options:
1. Windowed mode: 320x240. Smooth gameplay
2. Full screen mode: Rendering at 640x480 but only displays an area of 320x240. Great speed but you have black borders
3. Full screen mode: Rendering at 640x480 but there are a little black bars up and down. I think internal resolution is 640x400.
4. Full screen mode: Full screen 640x480. Not 60fps, maybe 40/50fps.

My pc has a pentium 166mmx. I can not try with something more powerful today, but I would be interesting to know which processor marks the sweet spot to have the same experience than arcade version.

I remember smoothness on a 233MHz... They really tried to retain the arcade graphics as much as possible, and the original game had used 400x256@55Hz and it'd get some much aliased scaling on this port. It's also a late 1996 port, which matters given the state of video cards, laptop chipsets, monitors, DirectX and MGL then.

At first ,I though game should run perfect in a 166 Pentium MMX processor, but it seems this was one of those titles that are beyond the specs of the most common computers when it was launched.
This morning I put the game in a P3 800mhz laptop with Windows ME and yes, in this machine it plays near a pixel perfect port for pc.

Maybe in the near future, I'll update the cpu just to have the same pc with better performance. I suppose setmul will work similar with a p233mmx when less performance is required.

Thanks!
