For those of you that have been deep into the inner workings of the final oem release of Windows 95, I am curious what files out of the \WIN95 install directory on the disc are required for a full installation, except for the internet, other language and content-related bloat?
When I install from the disc with all files in-place, I get an installation that shows as version C. However, when I cut the install directory down from the original 217 files (125MB, attached screenshot "A") to 53 files (47MB, attached screenshot "B"), I can do a full install with no errors, but the installation then shows version B when completed. So obviously one or more of those files are needed to get it to version C. I'm looking to figure-out what files and/or scripts are part of the B --> C update and include those, while excluding all the internet, language and content-related garbage that eats up so much space in the install directory.
Just thought I would post about it in case any of you have already been down this road. Otherwise I will start digging into it and removing components one by one until I figure it out. Some of the .CAB files are pretty self-explanatory and I think are fine to remove.
