6. We stay at 1280*1024 and test with sound:
1400C
XP 1600
6. We stay at 1280*1024 and test with sound:
1400C
XP 1600
Palomino feels like hiding right now as it looses again!
7. We reached the final and most demanding resolution: 1600*1200!
1400C
XP 1600
Another victory for Thunderbird! All period correct reviews show the contrary!
8. The final and most demanding settings in Code creatures: 1600*1200 AA 4X sound on:
1400C
XP 1600
Code creatures tests are done! The winner is Thunderbird , against all odds!
We go to Aquamark 3, a DirectX 9 benchmark!
Maybe Palomino will come back!
9. Aquamark 3 1024*768 resolution, default settings.
Thunderbird 1400
Palomino 1600
Palomino breaks the ice and wins its first test!
10. Aquamark 3 1024*768 with max settings including sound this time:
Thunderbird 1400
Palomino 1600
For the second time Palomino wins! Maybe Code creatures was just an exception...
11. We increase the resolution to 1280*1024 max settings with no sound the first time:
Thunderbird 1400
Palomino 1600
Palomino keeps on winning... just as period correct reviews show!
12. ... and with sound the second time:
Thunderbird 1400
Palomino 1600
Note that despite the low difference between the 2 CPU's in absolute values, in percentages that is a lot more!
Palomino feels very confident in Aquamark as it wins again!
13. The final and most demanding resolution is 1600*1200. No sound first:
Thunderbird 1400
Palomino 1600
By now it should be clear that Palomino has the upper hand in Aquamark 3 as it wins again!
14. Final settings are 1600*1200 max with sound:
Thunderbird 1400
Palomino 1600
Palomino makes a comeback and wins across all resolutions and settings in Aquamark 3!
We switch the benchmark to 3dmark 2000, a DirectX 7 test that was also tested in reviews of the era. Please note that reviewers used geforce3 or geforce2 ultra in almost every single article and those video cards are STRONGLY limiting performance!
15. 3DMARK 2000 at default settings: 1024*768, 16 bit color depth:
Thunderbird 1400
Palomino 1600
And Thunderbird wins again! 2% is a very small lead, but a lead nevertheless!
