Hi! greetings guys, emulation problems here jeje

Im adding new games to old MSDOS mame 0.37, to reach fullspeed neogeo emulation in my Pentium 2 333mhz PC

I suceed with almost all games, Samurai 5, svc chaos, mslug 3,4,5, etc

But i have problems with two games, but mst important to me, KOF2000, have garbled text and fixed graphics, im pretty sure the problem came from the 257d-s1.rom file, that is 512kb while all other S1 files in other games are 128kb

The attachment kof21.jpg is no longer available
The attachment kof22.jpg is no longer available

I tried to cut the 512kb file in 4 128kb and swap, for example, if i use the second part, all text are fine, but life bars get messed, etc

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Yes, the problem is the 512kb S ROM. Same thing happens on the Vortex modified Chinese 161-in-1 multicart, as it only supports 128kb S ROMs. For other games with 512kb S ROMs there are patched bootlegs that make it work with only 128kb, but for KOF2000 seems to be impossible. There are some unsuccessful attempts from several Arcade-Projects users. So, in practice, there are only two options:

  • Choose the 128kb bank that give the best results for you, and live with it
  • Implement the required bank switching in MAME to access the full 512kb

Thanks a lot for your great answer, and yes, sadly i realize too same options

Yes, bank switching is a option, but to be realistic, every other game works fine, only KOF2000 five this glitches, but still playable. This is like a 99.3% success rate jaja

Im programming a mame frontend for dos, when i finish i will share the frontend and moddified mame, thanks again for take your time to check my problem

Hi, sorry not to disappoint you much, but is more a neogeo mame only frontend. I did because i miss too much neoragex style in DOS, and i wanted to do a text mode only frotnend to practice in text mode. I compiled a custom mame 0.37, for me the last version that still playable in more low end pentium 2 and even p1 mmx, and i add games that was not supported, like Samurai 5 or metal slug 4, etc

Like i said i wanted to practice text mode, I did the frontend in 80x25 text mode, i almost finished it, here some screenshots
