Lately I've been playing about with getting decent GPUs for an XP build, but I'm running into a major issue with Chaos Theory. When run under XP, the game is almost unplayable due to frequent massive stutters, the game effectively freezes for half a second, sometimes including the audio. It is most noticeable during combat, the shootout scene near the end of Bathhouse is the best example of this, where it stutters almost 100% of the time. It does not seem to matter what settings I choose, shader model is irrelevant. Resolution also does not affect it.
What really gets me though is that the game works fine in Windows 7 on the same hardware. Occasionally it'll have a hiccup for a second, but nowhere like this. I've tested this on two different computers, one is a C2D 2.93GHz (forget the model, it's one of the very last ones from 2009 or so) and the other is running an i7-3770. Also used multiple GPUs, all have the exact same issue. Used Nvidia Quadro K1200 and AMD Radeon 7570 on both machines, and on the i7 I also used the Intel HD 4000. On all of them there are these massive stutters, ruining the game. Separate hard drives/installs used for both machines, they are completely fresh installs of the OS that are not connected to the internet. Game is fully up to date. I later installed the June 2010 DirectX redist in the hopes it would help, it did not.
Anyone have even the slightest clue as to why this is happening?
