What are good options for "super portable" systems?
I'm mostly interested in something with good DOS capability, I'm not as into
gaming as I once was - but in my retirement, I still like to dabble and
"make stuff" in DOS...
As I travel, I like to have a system with me ... but trying to avoid as
much extra luggage as possible... hence "super portable".
Here's what I'm using now, which fits quite nicely in a "man purse" or the
front pocket of a carry-on suitcase:
---------------------
Tablet: "Digital2" - 7"(21/12.5/1 cm) Atom4core Z3735G, 1gRam, 16gFlash
It does have a microSD slot and I've got 128G "drive D:".
Keyboard: "Microsoft Universal Mobile" - decent keys, folds up very small
(24/10.5/1 cm) - supports 3 bluetooth systems (I use WinTab, AndroidTab and
Phone) - opened it has nice "slot" to hold the tablet.
Mouse: "Logitech Ultrathin Touch" - smallest I've found (8.5/5.5/1 cm), also
is trackpad(on top) - supports 2 bluetooth systems (I use Win&Android tabs)
---------------------
Others I have tried:
Acer W500: Combo Win8 Tablet/Netbook - keyboard is a "dock" with 2 USB. SD slot
can go to a couple gRam is SLOW (AMD C-50) came with 32g Flash (removable)
which I upgraded to 128G.
This was my main travel system till the flash failed and I've not gotten around
to replacing it yet - It's also bigger(ticker) than I'd like.
Acer "Aspire One" - decent little XP Netbook, 1gRam, 160hHD, 2SD slots, 3 USB,
Atom N270 is slow. Good keyboard - good width/depth but thicker than I'd like
in "super small".
Microsoft "Surface 3" - just got this one and haven't played around with it
much - 8Gram and 256g SSD make it zippy, "fold up keyboard" cover keeps
it thin, but large screen while nice makes it wide/deep.
Acer Aspire 1410 - little bigger (ultraportable laptop), Win7 Celeron2core,
3Gram, 500gHD, 3 USB, SD, VGA&HDMI out. This is the one I tend to take when
I have room and plan to use it more.
I've also got a PoqetPC - Nice&Small, 8088 1mRam, limited storage, no network,
AApower - too little for my needs.
---------------------
I've heard "Pocket 386" is decent, haven't seen one so not sure how small
and usable it is...
I'd like faster/more storage than the "Digital2" - any suggestions?
