I have a Creative Live! SB0100 and a Plextor PX-W1610A connected via digital SPDIF cable. I am using Windows 98 SE. When I start playing an audio CD, playback is fine. However, when I pause or stop playback, I get a constant interference noise. It doesn't start until a CD is first played, and it stops during a soft reboot. I attached a sample file, where you can hear the white noise stop as soon as I unpause playback, and start as soon as I pause playback.

Any ideas?

I fixed this by doing a clean Windows install then using the retail installation CD from https://archive.org/details/sound-blaster-sb0100-retail-disc instead of the modified drivers contained inhttps://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=74361. This also had the side effect of getting my Live Drive working.

Wrap the wire around a soft ferrite ring.

I don't believe it was EMI. There would no noise until I started and then paused/stopped a CD. Playback itself was clear. And it isn't happening on the retail drivers.
