I think there is no way to deactivate the BMC. No jumper or bios settings at least.

Its hard but i decided to skip the board. There is no more i can try to run two cascades CPUs.
Running it with two 550er Tanner or single core is no option for me. A shame intel did no cascades support for it..

But thanks for all the information guys! Learned a alot about slot2.

Eyes open for the Asus XG-DLS..

After reading the thread more than once, I may have a solution!

I have an Aopen DX2G Plus which according to the bios updates release notes supports P3 Xeon 700MHz cpu.
https://web.archive.org/web/20021021212158/ht … os/dx2gplus.htm

With a speed display fix for 6A1 models which are the following models:

The attachment xeon700.png is no longer available

SIV shows the bios 1.07 (which I updated from 1.04) with a cpu microcode from 20/05/99.

The attachment aopen dx2gplus.png is no longer available

There's an update dated 08/03/00 on this page (but I haven't applied it):
https://web.archive.org/web/20021015011557/ht … bdrv/server.htm

I used the occasion to try a few things like this and unpictured benchmarks:

The attachment dualxeon.png is no longer available

I don't know if the 700MHz Xeon specific models you have will work on the DX2G but maybe we can figure out a motherboard trade, I'm happy enough with my pair of P2 Xeon 400 so I suppose they would work fine on your current Intel board...sorry for the thread hijacking!

Hi, I spotted SIV reports Slot 2, but does not report Xeon when it should. Please will you post Menu->File->Save Local files so I can figure out why and fix it.

I did it earlier and it crashed at the sm-bus part, I'll retry another time and post it in your SIV thread.

After a few Googles I found DX2GR107.BIN and was wondering which CPU µCode it contained so I added Menu->Hardware->BIOS Tables->CPU µCode File to SIV V5.82 Beta-02.

file.php?id=220440file.php?id=220438

It looks like it has CPU µCode for all the 256KB Cache Xeons and the initial A0/A1 1MB/2MB Cache 700 MHz Xeons, but not the later Bo stepping ones, so I doubt later 700 MHz and all 900MHz Xeons will work.

Can you also check what cpu are supported by the microcode update from the Aopen drivers page?

Yes, Per_p_05.pdb does not have any Xeon/Slot 2 CPU µCode, looking at flags 01 is Slot 1 and 10 is Socket 370, Slot 2 is 04. Note this is actually a bitmask and multiple bits will be set if the CPU µCode supports multiple types.

Thanks guys! The Aopen looks interesting. Can you check the PCI slots with SIV? Is there a 66MHz PCI slot ?

Yes and no, [ Machine ] would report any that the BIOS sets up, but 2000 vintage BIOS are none too good at correctly setting up the SMBIOS.

I have attached the manual I found

@red-ray can you also check the Asus bios microcode? There should be Support for the SL4XY. Not that i have a pair, but it would be nice is i found some day..
But at the end it looks like Asus did again the best job on bios support. It dosent wonder me at all looking on the amazing Slot1 boards they did (P2B).

oh that is strange, on bios notes there is "Add microcode update support for PIII Xeon (680) Revision = 017". Not totaly sure what that mean.

AFAIK no such CPU was ever released so it must be an Engineering Sample, further as it is 68 rather than 6A I suspect it only has a 256KB cache, see Re: Slot2 Intel C440GX+ with Dual Pentium 3 Xeon + Voodoo5 6000 clone PCI66MHz

BTW when happens with your Intel C440GX+ system when you install 2 x SL49P ? I wonder what CPU-1 CR0 and MSR 0000011E are set to.

With second SL49P it takes about 3min to start SIV. After that there is no data shown on CPU1. Cant provide more data because i disassembled the system. Since there is no way dual 700 cascades will run..

Thank you, I just checked the SuperMicro S2DGU 2gu2241 BIOS, it looks like it has three sets 1MB/2MB Cascades CPU µCode, and just 0680 for 256KB Cascades. It also has 0680 which AFAIK is a Coppermine SL3US.

Maybe i should look for a later Chipset. A big point i need a PCI 66MHz slot for my voodoo!
So it have to be kind of pci-x slot or AGP- PCI bridge that provide the 66MHz.
For example the Intel840 (Carmel). This compaq board looks like support all cascades up to 133FSB.
Another big + is the support for 5/12V CPUs what let you get much better CPU prices.

Maybe even an 860 chipset if your wish to get the most from your Voodoo 6000

You're right in that transition period for PCI-X

you are going to need to use a board with a 840 chipset or serverworks 3 chipset. I think the latter is more common, but yrmv.

https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/intel-sbt2-bay-town looks like a good starting place or the https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/iwill-dca200 or if it was me: https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/supermicro-s2dl3

I found something! I searched more for boards and than i seen a Compaq Proliant ML530 G1 Mainboard.
From the HP docs its for a dual 1GHz FSB133 256kb L2 5/12V CPU setup.
There was also a ML 570 with quadcore support. In the manual from the 570 is the 900Mz 2MB FSB100 5/12V.
Here the 530 specs: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDispl … docId=c01129722
Looks like thies boards are for the peak of PIII Slot2 Xeons.
And it has PCI-X. Will be worth a try, i have a 1Ghz and 900MHz 5/12V pair.
But than it comes to the power connector. I seen G2 what is the S370 version that use a external powerboard. For the G1 i dont seen one.
Is there a pinout of that power connector? Possible ATX adapter?
It looks larger as EATX, not sure it will fit into my case. Maybe i need to modify.. But first i need a solution for the power.

The attachment s-l1600.jpg is no longer available

Also bought the G1 power board and a PSU. At least i can get the pinout from the PSU to the power board..
Will be some work but possible. Im still not sure abouth the system/power button ribbon cable goes from the Powerboard to the MB its just like normal headers or some special hardware from the Power button?:

Some update on the build. I got the Mainboard and some other parts i need to power up the system. Still need some HP cable.
But there more problems to solve. One for example is that i got the board with no bracket for the CPUs. So i had to make my own one.
With my new 3d printer i created one with two 92mm fans. I can srew the cage from the bottom and it have a stripe on top where i can put some foam to hold anything in place.
I choose gold for matching the CPU coolers. Needed 3 prints with correction, but im happy with version 3. So first problem solved. (i know wrong CPUs, need to swap the coolers)
