Hello all.
I apologize if this isn't the correct subforum, this is my first thread on here.
Let me first say I am essentially a complete n00b at DOS, so Im lacking in exact command knowledge. I know a few but not much.
I am in the process of building a Win95 OSR2 pc. This is by no means my first PC build or even first "retro" build, but previously the oldest Ive gone back OS wise is ME.
I purchased a genuine unused WIN95 With USB support CD. It only came with the CD CoA and manual, no floppy. I am running into a snag in that it's become evident that I need a boot floppy to get the CD to start up.
I do not have one however I do have a boot floppy for WIN98SE so I tried to use that thinking it would just start up the CDROM and the data on the CD would take it from there but it seems like that Floppy only looks for the 98SE CD.
I found an IMG of what I thought was a WIN95OSR boot floppy online, got the IMG onto a floppy and tried it in the build but it wouldn't activate the CDROM at all. So I figured maybe if I took some of the CDROM related files off of the 98 Floppy and injected them into the 95 Floppy IMG something might happen. It did in that it asks me to install one of a few drivers for various CD Drives. The first choice is NEC and I do happen to be using an NEC drive (although from about 2002) so I chose that option but then it just seems to dump me into a DOS prompt. Im not sure what to do after this.
Can anyone help instruct me on this path im on or point me in the direction of maybe a more correct floppy boot disk IMG that can help me get up and running?
For transparency's sake here are my current components:
MOBO: MB-8500TUC-A
CPU: Pentium 133
RAM: 64MB
VIDEO: Matrox MGA MIL/2N
HDD: IDE 2 CF adapter w/32GB card
DRIVES: TEAC 3.5, NEC CD Rom (unsure of model number can get it if need be)
Any help is much appreciated!
