To try keeping it simple: I’m running a Compaq Presario 2286 with Windows 95 with a ton of my DOS game collection. Something I have noticed: when am running certain games that already have the scrolling choppiness common to dos games at the time, I get this feeling that the scrolling in some games might be more choppy than it should be.
I am running the games in DOS mode (actual dos mode, not command prompt) to be sure I’m making it as compatible as possible.
The games in particular I’m noticing this with are Secret Agent and Crystal Caves. Maybe the game scrolling is more lagging than I realized, but it’s to a point where the background scrolling is slightly straining my eyes more than I remember.
Checking videos of the games running from other users, they seem to have a scroll lag, but it feels like it is slightly less? I can’t tell if this is something I’m over analyzing, or if there’s actually more of an issue I’m having with my scrolling. Any suggestions on how I can diagnose this to be sure? I know it is natural to have more compatibility issues with DOS programs once you start to run Windows 95 onwards.
