For some, this motherboard does not qualify as retro hardware, but for me it does because it has a connector for fdd, which I use, but I have a different problem. In addition to Win XP, I also have Win 10 installed there, but the problem is "earlier" and probably concerns the bios. Here is what I wrote to ASrock support:
I have a problem with the motherboard z77 extreme 6, the bios does not want to accept the hard drive ST5000LM000-2AN170 and it is formatted to exfat, partition 1 gtp and it has to stay that way because I have nowhere to copy the data and is used to storage on PS4. I connected, turned on the PC and it does not want to start - it hangs at the moment of loading the BIOS. And I know that there is something wrong with the motherboard (ASrock z77 Extreme 6). It looks like this: If the PC starts the boot process, reaches the OS selection menu, I can connect the USB drive and everything works as expected. If I connect the drive and try to start it (both sata and usb), it simply stays on the ASrock main screen and no input is allowed. I tried on many USB inputs. If I start the BIOS (without the drive) and then try to connect the USB drive, it simply locks up and no input works, the keyboard also stops working. BIOS of the P2.80 motherboard, there were never any problems with the disk after connecting under Windows - and there still aren't any, smart is also completely fine. Important: When the disk is connected to sata (and I tried all 8 sata ports) and I start the PC on the motherboard, error A3 is displayed and it doesn't work any further, when the disk is connected to usb (no matter if usb 2.0 or 3.0) there is error b4 and it doesn't work any further. What's more, I tested the disk on another motherboard - asrock p67 extreme 4 gen3 and after changing 1 setting in the bios - it works. After changing the same bios setting in ASrock z77 Extreme 6, no change - it doesn't work. Please respond and help.
ASRock support only replied that they do not have this motherboard and cannot test it, but that the BIOS should be updated to version 2.90A (but I do not want to do that because 1. it is a beta version and 2. I have heard that this version causes problems with other things). When I replied that the problem is exactly the same in the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard (which I also have), they replied the same - that they do not have it and recommend updating the BIOS to the beta version - a failure. That is why I am asking you: maybe someone has or had this motherboard (or ASRock Z77 Extreme4) and maybe had the same problem and found a solution?
Interestingly, I also have an ASRock P67 Extreme4 gen 3 motherboard and this problem does not occur on it, only that the latest BIOS there is not a beta version, it is stable and very old - version 2.20 and without NVMe support.
