Aren't we pretty much protected by obsolescence? Windows XP is still my daily personal OS and I haven't had a malware infection in probably eight years. I haven't had an actual virus virus in double that.

New malware specifically targeting Windows XP or Vista in 2025 are rare. This is true because the vast majority of users operate with more recent versions of Windows. Legacy systems remain at risk, however, from old and repurposed malware.

I think that this kind of malware is at least about as rare as a flu that targets people with brown hair or black hair.
