Which card?
Win98se?

RageXL (slower and older) now and i had Rage 128 Pro (faster and newer) with Win98SE. Rage 128 Pro is also ok card for AMD K6-2/K6-3 up to DX6.1.

3DMark99 Max bit slower than Geforce2MX and Geforce2 has correct Table fog support, ATi cards are bad at this in Win9x OS.

As far as I understand, to get the most from K6 chips, there should be support for 3DNow! Instructions both from OS and vga drivers.

Unlike SSE, and similarly to MMX, 3DNow! uses the same CPU registers as the floating-point unit, so it doesn't need explicit support from the OS.

Best GPU what i like for AMD K6-III is Geforce3 + 7.76 and maybe 12.90 is also good driver for it,
it should have all, Table fog, 8 bit palleted textures and EMBM.

You have piqued my curiosity. Can you please run Quake 3 Demo001 at 1024x768x32bpp all options maxxed, first with 12.90 and then with 45.23? I want to see how much 3DNow really makes a difference in FPS.

I might be able to run some tests for you. Currently have a Geforce 2 GTS in my K6-III+ but I can put in my GF3 for some testing.
I think I've already got the 7.76 driver release installed.

I can try my GTS with XP and see if there are differences.
12.90
Or 40.72

But again, from you answers and sources online, I suspect it would all related to overhead.

Ok now it gets super weird.

GeForce 2 GTS 32mb
K6-III+ @ 616mhz (FSB 112)
Win xp sp2
3dmark2000

12.90 1458 points
40.72 1570 points
56.73 2715 points (native drivers from XP).

My guess is that the later driver is detecting the 3dmark executable and doing some shenanigans to effect a higher score. Change the filename of the 3dmark executable and test again...

You also might try a Quake3 timedemo (DEMO001, not FOUR), 1024x768, 32-bit textures, 32bpp, all quality options maxxed.

Thanks
