Hi there, i got this fantastic laptop, but some keys dont work at all, no matter what i try. it seems like keyboard was spilled by some liquid probably. I have keyboard replacement on the way. What is the chance that it has different cause than faulty keyboard?
It's a pretty chunky laptop and the keyboard makes a pretty good spill tray so it's most likely the keyboard that's at fault if something got spilled on it.
I was able to repair my Compaq Armada 1700 keyboard but it's a very involved process getting the keyboard disassembled, tracking down the faults, repairing them and then reassembling: Re: What retro activity did you get up to today?
If you've got just one section of a few keys not working then it's almost certainly the keyboard membrane itself. Usually a single track will connect up a bunch of keys on each membrane sheet and if that trace stops conducting then whole columns or keys all over the keyboard would stop working.
You could check the end of the keyboard's flex cable where the conductive paint goes into the motherboard's connector, perhaps there's paint worn off in a spot? But that's very unlikely on the Armada laptops since they don't use NiMH batteries that corrode everything.
