I just got a used lcd monitor to replace my dead crt. When I got home and switched on the monitor, I noticed that there were some patches at the bottom of the screen.

The attachment IMG_20250614_125034_copy_3072x2304.jpg is no longer available

Any idea if this is some sort of dirt/fungus inside the lcd screen or water damage and if it could be removed?

Intel 845GEBV2, Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz, Geforce FX5600 256MB, 512MB RAM, 160GB HDD, Sound Blaster Live! SB0100 - Win 98.

looks like degredation of the polarizer, cant be fixed if it is, tends to happen to older LCD panels, could be mould too between the polarizer and LCD, also cant be fixed since the two cant be separated without damaging the panel.

Im assuming you have tried ISO or chlorox wipes to clean it off.

The monitor is Acer V196HQL made in July 2014. I haven't tried cleaning it yet. What is the possibility of it spreading?
