Does this require a 16-bit motherboard, or can it work on an 8-bit PC? I own the NuXT 8088 board from Monotech.

Like many other all-in-one audio chips of the time, this one only supports 8-bit data transfer. I doubt it has been tested, much less on your specific board, but in theory there shouldn't be any reason that it cannot work. Clearly, you would be unable to use the IRQ or DMA configurations that are only available via 16-bit slots, and you might be forced to use UNISOUND to initialise the card, as the official software may not run on such a machine. Also, I wouldn't expect such a system to be capable of higher sampling rates or sampling resolutions, so I'm not quite sure what use such a card would have in a system of that type. Do you have a specific application in mind?

There were some issues during shipping that I won't repeat here, but I wanted to mention that both Edro and Leo took good care of me and gave me plenty of confidence throughout the process. I've ordered several cards over the years and have always been happy with the results.

I did receive my order this past week and it was packaged beautifully. I would order again in the future without hesitation, despite the hiccup in shipping that I experienced this time. I know that they will work hard to make things right.

I still haven't tested the two cards I received - I never have a free moment to play with my own hardware. It's saddening every time I get notifications about new posts on this thread. I haven't even had time to use the Orpheus II cards from a year and a half ago!

Now with the (crop) growing season in full swing, I spend every free hour I have working them. Perhaps I can try the cards out in 4-6 months when autumn hits 😉

I was pleasantly surprised to find a box in the mailbox today which appears to be the pcmidi addon board.
I was not even aware that it had shipped out.

Regarding the USB-C port

Do you think it'll be possible to make an RP2040 module for the MK1869 that does Panasonic CD-ROM emulation like the PicoGUS now does?
We could then use that USB-C port for USB sticks that store BIN/CUE images.

What do you think? is it doable?

CD emu projects already exist.

I built:
Convert old ASUS ASC boardviews to KICAD PCB!

everything is possible to do as an addon, you have full ISA access and direct usb pins access - the only reason it is a USB-C port is because of space constraints of the bracket, a USB-A port would be unusable in many system cases because it is too much on the edge

Submitted!

thanks for the support! 😀

Always. These new soundcard (and new 3dfx videocard) products are worth supporting from the community. I didn't realize that the pcmidi addon was released for the previous card when it was purchased, so extra pcmidi addons submitted there.

wait, what? did I miss this? 😁

Cards from Anthony K/zxc64 https://www.zxc64.com/

Not cheap, but very nice new cards. I really wanted the S.U.X. 6000 model because the box was awesome, but I didn't want to spend that much money when it was available.

we have opened pre-orders for the MK1869 XTREME soundcard, anyone interested in this the details are on the card's page: https://pcmidi.eu/xtreme.html
thanks!

Ah, perfect, I've set myself a reminder to place a pre-order, when my paycheck will arrive.

Oh and by the way, I gave up on the ALR and put the Orpheus II in my P233, it's been happily going along ever since, old computers have their part of mystery, I guess
