Hello.

I'm trying to run 9: The Last Resort on my Win 10 64 bit OS laptop as a bit of a test. I've managed to get the game directory setup on my computer and have mounted the CD as the game requires. The game loads/starts but I notice a graphics problem as it runs. The game jumps directly from a brief black screen/"drumroll" audio to the static photo of the resort and continues on from there. It skips over the Isadore (sp?) Options menu (new game/load game/continue game) screen. I also note when I "Esc" out of the game, the Isadore Save/Quit Options screen does appear ... but the background graphics are partially missing (only Isadore's moving mouth appears, rest of her face is missing).

I have no clue how to solve gane graphics issues, so I was wondering if anyone here has tried to run "9" on a modern Win computer and, if so, did you experience these graphics issues? If so, were you able to fix them...?

I'm new to posting for game assistance, so forgive if I haven't provided enough info. Please let me know if/what additional might be needed to figure this out. Using the search here, I only found questions regarding issues running "9" in DOSbox, hence the new thread.

Thanks for any consideration regarding this issue. "9" is a pretty good adventure with very creative puzzles and graphics, IMHO...

Have you tried to apply dgvoodoo2 or ddrawcompat?

Thank you for the reply and advice. J had never heard of those two older graphics adapters before. I researched them, downloaded them and installed their respective DLL files into the game directory (one program at a time). Unfortunately, neither had any effect on the game's issues, so maybe the problem is not directly graphics related?

If anyone has any other thoughts on how to solve the game's performance issues, please let ne know...

Thanks again...

Oh, I see what it is. This is a Macromedia Director game which are nearly all broken now.
ScummVM doesn't support it yet either. You'll need to emulate Windows 9x or 3.1.

Thanks for the additional reply. Yep, "9" is a Director Version 5 (D5) game. Yes, SCUMMVM is still currently in the process of developing support for D5 games. And yes, I can get the game to play well in DOSBox. PCem and 86Box.

But the purpose of this forum is to discuss running old Windows games on new versions of Windows.

So ... my original graphics-display issue question still stands. Has anyone else tried to run "9" on a modern Win computer and, if so, did you experience graphics display issues (with the game's "Isadore" New/Load/Save/Quit Game screens displaying only partial graphics...) during gameplay?

NOTE: I've played the game a bit more now, have saved a game and I now see the game's initial New/Load Game screen appear as expected, so that issue was just a mis-remembering on my part. (screen doesn't appear if there are no saved games...).

Thanks again...

PS - I've been able to run more than a few old Director games pretty well on my modern Win 10 laptop (Safecracker (1997), Traitor's Gate, Physicus/Chemicus/Bioscopia, Amber, RHEM, Cracking the Conspiracy)
