Im a big fan of the original, and I always found the gameplay so awesome that graphics never really mattered that much. After flying for a few minutes you were just there... in that Galaxy far far away. But this new Mod looks really good (eapecially the capital ships) and they kept the original gameplay. Did anyone already went back to thecockpit and took down a few Tie Fighters...?

Ok, I sucessfully played the first mission and had a blast . I then sucessfully played the second mission and succeeded as well, identifying all hostile ships. I then attempted to take a screenshot of the stardestroyer which arrives last, for you fellow members of the vogons allianze - and died. Will try again. What I can say so far is that everything is true to the original game but just looking and sounding much better. This mod really is something...

I think it may be possible. Im not sure how well this works for the later more difficult missions. The key to succeeding in most X-wing missions is to quickly get an overview about the location (and mission objective) of the different waves of Tie-fighters and Bombers. And then clearing them out of space asap. This second part always required a joystick for me. So if you just want to take a look, it may be ok. But to really dive in a good controll is probably needed. That said, I know people who sucessfully played Freelancer without joystick and I never really managed this

This time I survived the second mission. Identified all hostile ships and waited for the arrival of the Star Destroyer. I kept my distance and took a quick picture out of the front window of my A-Wing. What a sight!

Another really cool thing this mod brings are additional sounds. Especially when passing capiral ships. There is a subtle deep humming sound which gives the ship additional gravitas - cool.

Play the TIE Fighter conversion for X-Wing: Alliance. You'll poop in your pants, out of sheer joy. It's that good.

I am just back from a mission safely escorting a shuttle back to the flagship...

did I already mention how awesome this mod is?

Here are a few additional points I noticed:
- firstly, despite being exactly the original missions, the gameplay is easier. This is mostly due to the higher graphic fidelity. It is much easier to identify ships, even in the small front an rearfacing screens and one gets a good three dimensional sense about all the ships that are around.
- The map view is on the main window and no need for back and forth switching to see what individual units are up to
- Joystick is still the best (at least for me) to quickly clear the sky of all Tie's
- The sound and music are incredible good
- for some unknown reason my Nebulon-B frigate looks completely ugly (mabe can be fixed with an update)
- The departure and arrival cutscenes (which were awesome back in the day) look really bad especially on the very large screen. And the graphic is much worse than the ingame footage (see image above)
- I wonder if the makers could not simply implement the cutscene within the engine. This usually means simply departure and arrival at the flagship from which you jump into hyperspace to the respective mission. Would be much better with the ingame engine.

I've enjoyed the heck out of the XWVA project, and one of the things that makes it a lot easier is that the game has a feature that wasn't added until TIE Fighter; the ability to see what the target of a ship is. This makes escort missions much less punishing! There's also a notification when the mission has failed, and a list of objectives that wasn't visible until starting and failing a mission in the original release. Those quality of life improvements alone have taken a lot of the frustration out of playing the game, and I look forward to putting more time in soon!

Yes - not to forget the ability to adjust speed to your trageted ship ... this was a big deal in Tie Fighter !
