Is there any reason to install more than 1 MB RAM on a 286 PC?

EDIT: found the ZIP file for the Win 3.0 mach8 driver on my laptop, attaching it here.

I took the liberty of posting that driver here: https://theretroweb.com/drivers/1538

I get the dip-20 ram chips to upgrade my 286 computer next week. Looking forward to upgrading to 2 MB!

I used an ISA Mach 32 in my 386sx back in the day. It was gloriously stable in OS/2 2.0 compared to other early windows accelerators line the Diamond Speedstar 24x that I tried out, but cost me 2 weeks salary at the time.

How much slower is a Mach 8 VGA Combo ISA compared to a Mach32 ISA?

My last testing on a Mach8 got 50% quicker than base TVGA9000 but ~10% slower than a TVGA8900D on a low end 486. So it's probably "alright" on 286/386 it's only on stuff like Doom where you'd notice.

Well I guess that pretty much matches up with the vga performace that you would expect from the ATI wonder 28800 chip on the card.

How is the 2d acceleration from the 38800 compare with the mach 32?

I haven't really tested it much in windows, it's got all the basic 8514 stuff, can grab a window and wave it around and doesn't seem to lag much.
