After finishing Doom 3, the addon and lost mission I must say, the sound design in this (classic version not BFG) is very great. That brought me to think about other FPS games with great sounds and I would like to see if I can find some new ones which I have not tried.

My layout:
[1] [Melee] Dukes Foot
[2] [Pistol] Doom 2016
[3] [Rifle] Medal of Honor (the pling sound)
[3] [Shotgun] Halflife
[4] [MP] Soldier of Fortune
[4] [MG] Soldier of Fortune
[6] [Minigun] Quake 2
[7] [Rocket Launcher] Bullgut from Shogo because it looks beautiful
[8] [Plasma] Doom 3
[9] [Weird] Razor from UT1
[0] [Sniper] UT1
[Xtra] [BFG] Quake 2 because it looks like a portable microwave

Best game with the most overall weapon composition: Bulletstorm

What are your favorites?

[1] [Magnum revolver] Half Life 2 (although the crossbow can be fun too)
[2] [Hunting Pistol] The Last of Us II (Part 1 has 'El Diablo' for that matter)
[3] [Dual wielded Ingram] Max Payne 2
[4] [TMP / Schmidt Machine Pistol] Counter-Strike Source

Forgive me being #2 and #3 third person.

I haven't played that many different FPS games to begin with... or alternatively said, my exposure is very limited to the Half-Life / CS / Valve universe. In any case, here goes a pretty short list:

Half-Life (multiplayer): tau, shotgun, and snarks 🤣
- nothing like flying around a map and randomly dropping snarks on their heads... or landing right in front of them from a flight and blasting them away with the shotgun.

Half-Life 2 Deathmatch:
- GRAVITY GUN!!! I mean, who doesn't think it's a good to throw an old toilet at an enemy? 🤣 Also, the sound from the cast iron radiators and empty gas bottles are pretty cool too.
- crossbow. no scope, run sideways, and pitch an arrow as you strafe. Then watch enemy get nailed to the wall behind. So much satisfaction. 😁
- Also at not-so-distant 3rd: tripmines on indoor maps / tight quarter spaces. It's a nearly guaranteed kill. Even pro's may have a hard time avoiding them. The worst is when you place it so well and so many that you forget where and trip on your own. 🤣

CS 1.5/1.6:
- 228 compact pistol.... because I'm terrible with the Deagle... and the other pistols are kinda weak.
- MP5 - such a nicely balanced SMG.

Yessir!
That and the Mac10 are two of my favorite, no kidding. For some reason, I find their wide spray pattern more predictable than the AK or M4's and so I'm better with them.
I know they are viewed as meme weapons... and that's even more the reason to use them. Nothing like eliminating a try-hard with a meme weapon like that. P90 too.
When I feel in a more serious mood, I'll usually go with the Krieg (when available.)

BTW, I kinda wish the thread tittle was "favorite 1st & 3rd person shooter games weapons".
Though if that was so, I'd probably have a pretty long list with all of the Fortnite meme weapons. Now that was such a fun game back in the early seasons (especially chapter 1 and 2.)

Quake 4 machine rifle sound and power.
Original DooM plasma gun sound and power.
Best sounding thing is a Wolfenstein 3D chain gun.
Overall the best sounding and looking guns were in Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
The most interesting gun is Half Life 2 gravity gun.

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.
PS. If I upload RAR, it is a 16-bit DOS RAR Version 2.50.

For me it's.... pew pew headshot and they drop like a sack of potatoes. The sound is so crisp I immediately fell in love with it.

I suppose if you only consider the single-player game only, then yes, it is a pretty good gun. For multiplayer though (HL2 DM), it's pretty lackluster - mostly a case of "use this as a lost resort" if none of my other guns are reloaded or out of ammo.
I don't like its sound though - sounds like a thin firecracker going off. IMO, the Glock from HL1 sounds better. Still a bit on the "thin" side. The P228 from CS is the most balanced piston in terms of sound - not thin, but also not heavy-sounding like the Deagle or 357 revolver from HL2.

I liked far cry 2 for the degradation process too, i thought it a bit 'speeded up' but simulated a truth, that if you grab a poorly maintained gun laying on the dusty ground it's not going to be 100% reliable from then on. It also affected the visuals. Altogether it made the game feel more like it was set in a 'real world' scenario

Mine are similar to many others....

Doom Shotguns and the good old plasma gun.
Duke Nukem 3D Devastator.
Half-Life 2 Gravity Gun.

More recently, in the Fallout Universe of games, I never really had a favorite until Fallout 76. I'm a huge fan of the Railway Rifle, Enclave Plasma Rifle, and Tesla Rifle. 😀

Same as my favorite in real-life: a simple autoloading battle rifle can cover the vast majority of anti-personnel needs. Whenever I am hunting tangos in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six with the H&K G3 I dwell on the irony that, in the real world, it is a fairly common weapon among irregular forces because of its cheap simplicity and the diversity of countries licensed to produce it for themselves. Assault rifles are fun and handy but, also like in real life, its light caliber usually means multiple shots to put a target down for the count.

Excellent choice. The gun you start with in Quake II was always very off-putting and unsatisfying to me. Has a toy gun aspect to it, and the "bullets" just look silly and slow.

Now that I think of it, I guess I always enjoyed the hand drawn guns and sounds in Outlaws. I guess I just love Outlaws, period.

The MP40 in Call of Duty 2 was a favorite too albeit a weird one: way more effective when used from the hip, could almost be used as a sniper rifle from the hip for precise shots from distance. Aim down your sights with it, and it's next to useless for me.
