Hi folks,

just recently i purchased a 5.25 floppy drive with external enclosure - see pictures for model numbers. I'm wondering if anyone has a clue which (probably ISA) card this was connected to. Connector is parallel-like 25pin but obviously must be also suppyling 5 and 12V which normal parallel port does not (or does it?).

Thanks for any hints.

This looks like a 25 pin Sub-D, and not the 37pin Sub-D that was used for authentic IBMs below...

Your best bet may be a custom breakout of this port on a multio pigtail slotcover, connected to the PC's 5v GND, 5v rail, and FDC cable header...

However, I am not convinced that all the needed schugart interface lines can fit on that port that way.

That's the same connector as the IBM external floppy drive enclosure I think. It's a straight line-to-pin connection.. so you'll need two things:
* An extension cable to connect to the enclosure's back.
* A floppy cable with one end that connects to the floppy controller (mobo or IO card) and the other end you crimp the matching port connector to the extension cable above. Just be careful to make sure the whole setup is properly transferring all the lines without mixup or a shift.

I believe someone here on Vogons already listed the parts needed for this little project.

Turbo XT 12MHz, 8-bit VGA, Dual 360K drives
Intel 386 DX-33, Speedstar 24X, SB 1.5, 1x CD
Intel 486 DX2-66, CL5428 VLB, SBPro 2, 2x CD
Intel Pentium 90, Matrox Millenium 2, SB16, 4x CD
HP Z400, Xeon 3.46GHz, YMF-744, Voodoo3, RTX2080Ti

It absolutely is not. The pictured item is DB-25, IBM used DC-37

Could it be an external floppy drive for an amiga ?

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

Might be for an early portable or clamshell laptop like the Sharp PC-4600, XT to 286 class alternate models, early Toshibas, something like that.

If the hookups seem the same as this, then it's for a Sharp.. https://blog.hardtechnology.net/post/sharppc4641-extfdd/
