Hi. I recently got an LGA 775 desktop on eBay, and it arrived in significantly worse condition than I thought. I have added my own GPU, sound card, and storage, but it's still pretty unstable under load (Doom 3 and Painkiller crash constantly). In addition to replacing the broken optical drive, I am thinking of also getting a semi-modular power supply as that would greatly reduce case clutter (and because the generic PSU that's currently in it has me a bit paranoid). Is there anything specific I need to look out for when getting a new PSU for the LGA 775 platform? Thanks.

775 is new enough that you should be able to run any modern PSU the only problem I can think of is if you get a PSU with a 24 pin and not a 20+4 cable and your board uses 20 pin. however most every modern PSU has a 20+4 pin cable and of not there are adaptors.

Yep.
P4 was the crossover point of "almost everything on the board derived from 5v"to "almost everything derived from 12v"

I'm sure there are probably a few baby-at p4 478 boards with AT power optional that make that rule not 100% true, but by 775 you should be good.
