Hello everyone!

I'm trying to run Warcraft - Orcs and Humans under DOSBox in Linux Debian and I have a great problem of sound choppiness.

During the introduction movie of the game the sound stutters a lot.

I'm using ALSA + Timidity as a MIDI Sequencer. I've tried also to hack dosbox.conf, hoping to get some improvements but without luck (I've changed core/cycles parameters)

I've also tried DOSBox under Windows XP and the exact same game runs like a charm. 😵

Have you any suggestions?

Thanks

Marcello

I've tried setting core from auto to normal (until now I only tired to set core to dynamic ) and I must say that is MUCH better now.

Not at the Windows level yet (some stuttering here and there) but really really better.

Shouldn't the dynamic core be better than normal? Maybe it has some problems under linux?

Could be.

I downloaded and compiled the lastest CVS snapshot and the problem is still there.

I tried DOOM also, but the sound part of the game is too limited to determine if the choppiness is present or not (shots and grunts are not enough :p ). Anyway, it seems that the game is smoother with "normal" than with "dynamic".

Hope this helped the wonderful DOSBox project (I doubt , maybe I'm too vague :p )

Linux -> Wine -> DOSBox -> game? 🤣

Playing with the blocksize/prebuffer options in dosbox.conf seems to have helped some Linux users.
