I had an old DOSBox 0.63 and everything worked fine. Then I installed 0.70 and found it wouldn't save my settings. Then I found the newer 0.72 and it wouldn't either. I then put the old 0.63 back on now it won't. Is there a command to save settings I might have done ages ago, and forgotten. Everytime I run it I'm greeted with only the z:\

Nice, thanks. Probably skirts the problem but it'll do.

You probably did overwrite your original dosbox.conf with the one from the new DOSBox version(s). Adding mounts to the "autoexec" section of dosbox.conf has nothing to do with "skirting", it's one of the "official" ways to confgure your mountings.

Start off with a clean install of the official 0.72 dosbox release. Do NOT install
it over an old version, the path should (windows) be something like
c:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.72
If you start up dosbox, check the console window which dosbox.conf file is loaded.
