I grabbed it one day it was not a 404 (strange) but I am more worried about this for others.
Dosbox ECE still seems to be the best for the 2 games I play. Maybe I am naive and there is a better option but I only use 2 games (Indycar Racing 2 and Grand Prix 2 by microprose). I wonder if the author would be OK with us hosting it somewhere else.

I still use ECE because no other dosbox port supports joystick deadzone in the most simplest and effective way possible as ECE for Wing Commander Privateer, Mech 2 and other sims.

It's hosted on the internet archive, or you could probably just use the wayback machine to just grab it from the ECE site from before it got taken down.

I use it on my XP retro build with a CRT monitor and honestly is all I need, I'm not missing anything. I hope this doesn't fall in oblivion.

Edit:
While archive.org is down, I discovered the links to the builds are missing on the original website, but the files are still hosted there. You can browse them using the wayback machine, that seems to be working again:
https://web.archive.org/web/20211011175017/ht … .net/dosboxece/

Sadly the build files are not archived, but you can use the wayback machine URL to deduce the original download URLs. Like this:
https://yesterplay.net/dosboxece/download/arc … 0ECE%20r4301.7z
https://yesterplay.net/dosboxece/downlo ... (Linux).7z
For instance this is the last version that had the pixel perfect plugin, I'm interested in the opengl vsync feature, and it works like a charm. Other releases can be downloaded just modifying the URL to the right build number.

I need to get this going in Linux, why did they remove the files? This became the de facto dosbox variant to run the 'Grand Prix 2' motor racing simulator by legendary developer and engineer sir Geoff crammond. This sim is critically acclaimed and is still widely used by many people.

The other variants don't seem to run the Sim at the proper speed (either too fast or too slow), and the physics are fully locked to the frame rate so this is a major concern. Others have reported issues with peripherals such as wheels and pedals and so forth. As such ECE became the undisputed standard to run this Sim.

I would be eternally grateful if anyone can provide assistance in getting the Linux version files. The wayback machine doesn't have them https://web.archive.org/web/20210723044859/ht … oxece/download/

I have the windows version from someone in the GP2 community I'll try and run it in WINE hopefully it works OK but the Linux one would obviously be ideal

As reported here: Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux) back in 2023 the fork was discontinued.
If you have an issue with the game using the original DOSBox or the various forks then report it at the appropriate locations (Mostly sourceforge or github) and perhaps it will be fixed.

Thanks DosFreak, I will try every available version in Linux. do you know why they deleted the files? It seems like a waste especially since the GP2 community reached almost unanimous agreement that it was the best variant to run that Sim. The time issue has been noted for at least 15 years, ECE fixed it out of the box.

I will report back if the windows version works well in WINE at least Linux users can have peace of mind. This Sim is notoriously resource intensive even on original hardware

Hi,
I'm also a fan of the Geoff Crammond Grand Prix games. Although I'm currently not playing GP2 I'd try DOSBox Staging or, in case you've missed it, try the great Windows port of the game called "x86GP2". Sadly it's developed for Windows, but with Proton and the like it'll probably work on Linux as well, at least that's what I read some weeks ago somewhere.

*EDIT* Forgot to add the link for x86GP2: https://grandprix2.de/gp2forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=23942

Thanks Villeneuve (nice name BTW 😎)

I'll try staging next, I tried Dosbox-X but its too slow. Hopefully I'll get lucky with staging otherwise I'll try ECE with wine.

I plan to try x86 with wine but its important for me to be able to run the original dos program. I don't know why the files have been removed it's a Shane for the whole gp2 community
