I can’t believe how many Programs and Games I can run on this 486 computer with only 16mb of Memory.
And its Still Very Fast for a 486 computer.

This is the computer I wish I would have had back in 1993 when I was taking computer classes.

Guys, I am Sad to Hear Microsoft will be Ending Support for Publisher program in October 2026
I loved working in this program for many years.
It’s so easy and intuitive to work in.

So I decided to install in on the old 486.

Guys,
Backing up the 486 is Super Easy.
I just Network Map a drive to my WD MyCloud NAS and copy the files over into a folder.
From my Windows-10 PC I can pickup the files off the NAS and burn them to a CDR disk.
To Restore I just boot my 486 off a DOS Floppy with CDROM support. use the xcopy command to copy the files from the CDR to the 486 Hard drive if I want a System recovery CD.

Playing Joust on my FREE time.
With the turbo switch I can Slow down my 486dx4-100 to a 286@20mhz so I can play games like Joust which require a Slow CPU.

Nothing Wrong with an Old PC.
The English language and Number system has NOT changed since the Creation of the computer.
And Music on the CD was the Best I think.
Windows 95 was designed for the 486-33 CPU and is the Best OS for the 486 I think.
Just use 8mb or more of memory. A CF card really helps too.

This was my first digital camera back in late 1990’s from what I remember.
It cost about $300 back in late 1990’s.
I recently found another one brand new on eBay
It’s the “HP C30”.
It’s not very good picture quality but it worked okay back in 90’s.

But anyways a multimedia computer needs a camera.
The system requirements reads it will work on a 486 computer with 16mb of ram and Win95.

So let’s see if we can get it to work on the Ultimate 1993, 486 computer.
I use to use this camera wih My HP Kayak computer running WinNT-4.0 and Dual Pentium-III CPUs.
The picture quality is about the same as 35mm film. Not very good.

Well, it works on my 486dx4-100 computer with 16mb of RAM and Windows-95.
I thought it would work with Win3x but no software. Thats okay because i can just use the 486 CF card drive to transfer photos to the hard drives. I am going to add a second CF card drive too.

Guys, the 486 is back on the workbench.
I am going to add a second CF card to the front panel and NEW Harddrive.
For large amounts of storage and removable drives.

That's wasted on a 486, you'll only ever need 120GB, tops.

Nice build, you werent wrong about RAM being so expensive back then, its was crazy extortionate . I was in highschool and it was our first home computer, a 486 SX25, which I thought was hot shit, till I saw the machine at my high school they had for Graphics class, it was a 486 DX2 with a monster, 16 MB of Ram!
I ended up getting a 2x cdrom and sound card kit but that was as far as the upgrade got.

Yes, in DOs you are forced to learn how to edit the configuration files.
windows95 was designed for the 486 CPU so if you want an Easy setup just use Windows95
Personally, I think Windows95 is the Best OS for the 486.
So much more software is available if you use Windows95.
And Windows95 can use up to 64mb of ram

I have my 486 running Dos 6.2 and it only uses 3mb of ram
When I run Win3.11 it uses all 16mb of ram
Also a CF card really helps with memory management
That’s one of the first upgrades I would do for to 486 computer.

Visio ?…YES Please.
This Visio program is just so easy to learn and intuitive It has all the basics you need for all kinds of diagrams and drawings.
This completes my Microsoft Office Suite of programs I think ?

Never seen a pre Microsoft version of Visio (although admittedly I only use Visio from time to time skipping entire versions)

But If I'm thinking the MS Office "extended family" Then it would be Office + Publisher, Visio and Project

Yes, I have Visio 3.0 too

It installed okay on the 486 with 16mb of RAM but did not play very well
You need a Pentium CPU and more than 16mb or RAM.

Back around year 2001 I had a job supporting FIFA ticket sales.

The 486dx-33 computer was my first computer back in 1993
I mainly used it for playing CD’s, dos games, fax, dial up internet bbs bulletin boards, Netscape,
AT&T world net internet, learning office programs.
CBT Training and school work.

I saved up allot of money to buy it.
It cost me about $2,700 USD with monitor and Laser Printer.

I thought I was on top of the World when I bought it only to have it become obsolete in two years.
I don’t recommend people spend allot of money on a computer today
Because computer technology is advancing and changing faster than ever.
