Hi there, are there any shuttle XPC's users here at vogons?
I am searching for suggestions of small, silent but powerfull retro builds. The most interesing to me is not the fact of the fastest CPU or GPU in such a build. Getting a silent and cool machine with optimal Power would by my main target. I am a collector for the older cases with around 2000. These would be my main focus:

Would be nice to read from your configurations 😉

I got a retired FB52G2 plus some spares that were scrapped at my old workplace, they had some overheating issues because how the side ventilation intake could be blocked when placed side by side. It had a dead PSU which I replaced, and I could never get the WiFi addon board to work, it was probably intended for another model, but it has dual ethernet ports anyway, so it can be used as a gateway.

One thing it misses is an AGP slot, as some programs do not like the onboard Intel gfx, and other PCI graphics cards are not much better either. I run one as a printer server on and off nowadays. They are not completely silent, but bearable, since even with the heatpipe they have (and need) a fan to cool it.

I have three Shuttle XPC machines.

SD30G2B - Intel 945GC chipset, takes P4 through C2D, currently has an E6600 in it. One PCIe and one PCI slot. Houses an XFX 9800 GT.

SK22G2 - AMD K8M890CE chipset. Currently has an Athlon 64 x2 6000 in it, and a Geforce 7800 GT.

SB51G - Intel 845GE chipset. Houses a P4 Northwood 2.8GHz with HT, and a Quadro FX 3000.

I had a SS51g with a P4b 2.4 GHz back then, with a fanless Radeon 9000. It was quite performant and silent (stock case fan was a bit noisy though, and I did cut the vents at the rear to improbe the airflow).

I have an SN95G5V3. Athlon64 and AGP. https://archive.shuttle.eu/2004/en/sn95g5.htm#sn95g5/
It has the potential to be a decent early-to-mid XP era gaming pc with the right graphics card. I set it up as a utility PC with a Radeon 9250 and an MSI TV tuner card to digitize analog media and possibly record gameplay from other retro systems, though this one I didn't try yet.

Around 2004/2005 I had a SN45Gv2 with R9800pro, later X800gto with 3200+.
The Fan solution was too loud, so I took out the case-fan and mounted a 120mm fan outside the case with constant flow.
