Eventually things are going to get to the point that emulators/virtualizers will be the only choice for running vintage software tuned to machines and operating systems of the era. Thankfully a powerful enough computer can already take 86Box to cover most prominent standards supported in Windows 9x save discrete positional audio. Until that day, hopefully our vintage hardware lasts.

if it's run too fast, try framerate limiter. For redline racer for example, it works very well.
For graphics problem try the differents wrapper that exist https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Glossary:Display_wrapper
for starforce protection, except no cd, this won't works.
for powerdvd, try mpc-hc or vlc
for adobe flash, try ruffle
I don't know about sound blaster that doesn't work but my xfi titanium works well on windows 11 except for the bug in openal (openal soft is the savior).

Maybe some of those gog ones will get an update from gog

however the surprise to me is that games from nearly 30 years ago can still often work on the current iteration of windows

this is way, if there are non gog/patch/tricks then it's either maintaining an actual machine or having some suitable emulation. Eventually there may even be layered emulation - where we run one layer in order to run some older emulation that works best for some even older target system, could get silly after a while 😀

yes, lots of windows old game works with new windows and when it doesn't works, very often, there is any solution thanks to community (wrapper, fan patch, winevdm, other software, etc).
For the others, stay the emulators for example like dosbox, pcem etc
