Hello,

I’m building a retro Windows 98SE machine. I found an ECS KM400-M motherboard. But when I boot computer, I don t have the « beep » that mean « eveything Ok, normal boot». Also when booting Windows 98, if you hold down a key during Windows 98 splashscreen, the motherboard should do a beep but nothing here.

The motherboard has an internal speaker. The eBay sealers told me it was a retail motherboard but it is a OEM board from UNIKA Computer 🙁. No option in bios for activate post beep.

I flashed the bios with a retail ECS bios but no option and no beep again.

Unfortunatly there is no speaker pin on motherboard. The emplacement is present but no pin. I have a buzzer and I tried to put pin of the buzzer on the metalic part of speaker emplacement but nothing append…

Is there a way to get beep post code? Perhaps in modding bios? Or maybe with extension diagnostic card? Unfortunatly expansion card I found on Amazon wich have a buzzer require to be plugged… on the speaker emplacement of the motherboard…

I know it not a use full feature but for a Retro PC and a geek like me it s a fonction I would have.

Thanks for reading me.

François

Could you upload a picture?

If I understood correctly all you have to do is solder two pins to the through-hole pads.
