Honestly, this build looks awesome. I might one day get a Titan X even though I have heard issues with some games due to the modified drivers. I hope you have fun with the best OS ever.

Intel i7-3770/Asus P8H77-M/Gt 980ti - XP
Intel P4(Prescott)/Gigabyte GA-8I915PL-G/FX5200/CT4740 - Win98

Thanks, so far my Titan X is treating me well in XP, though i have snagged a pair of nice ASUS ROG Matrix GTX 780 Ti Platinum's, in case I run into any issues. 😀

Did actually get this "upgrade"in form a Dell P991, a couple of days ago. So that's an end to the headache of faffing about with a range of screen resolution and compatibility and scaling issues. 😀

I was almost thinking I should start another thread, but i'm still dealing with much of the same parts, so I'll just roll with this one. 😀

During the summer I pretty much rebuilt the system. I wanted to push the boundaries and fulfill the systems true potential as my Ultimate multi-generational gaming rig. After much planning and researh I managed to source a used Rampage IV Black Edition motherboard.

While Windows XP is not supported by ASUS for this board, it's still an X79 and as such I was able to source all the needed drivers from other X79 board download pages (Such as the Rampage IV Extreme). The only thing I haven't found yet are wifi and bluetooth drivers, which fortunately is of no consequence to me.

Initially i had sourced an i7-4960X, but got a tip about the Xeon E5-1680 V2. So I managed to get one of those, cheap from China, and it works beautifully. Now I just need to get hold of a beefier PSU so I can overclock it. 😀

I also managed to score a black Dell P991, which color matches nicely with the rest of the setup, and it's in much better shape than the beige 991 i've been using. Sharper picture, no burn-in, case in immaculate condition. Interestingly it seems to be more "Windows 10 compatible" too, as it's properly detected by the system as a Dell P991, whereas the beige one only read as a generic analog display, something which actually has created some issues with the new 58x.xx series of Nvidia drivers.

All is not hardware upgrades though, and I've put in a bit of effort doing some minor case modding, by installing omega-type profiles, to help reduce the amount of dust sneaking in through the very large gaps between the Obsidian 500D's swingdoor sidepanels.

Did have a bit of a setback though, as it turns out that one of my RAM modules, that I re-used from the Z77 Sabertooth, has a cracked solder joint and I'm currently running only 2 of 4 modules in Dual-Channel mode. Luckily i did manage to find a store that still carries DDR3 and actually managed to place an order for a kit of G.Skill Ssniper DDR3-2133 CL10 QC - 32GB, which are actually on the motherboards QVL, so hopefully they will do the trick. 😀

On a side note: I've been growing my collection of XP-era games, and to date I've had no compatibility issues crop up, unique to the Titan X. The only issue I've seen is some GeForce FX era games that get messed up shaders, but it's the same on Kepler and Fermi cards too.

Dell P991 is probably one of few 19" CRTs that can do 1600x1200@85Hz. My AOC 9GlrA does maximum 72Hz so this resolution isn't really usable. I have also Samsung SyncMaster 757DFX but it only does 1600x1200@75Hz but with 17" screen which is small.

Right you are! I actually got my hands on a Samsung SyncMaster 957P that only does 1600x1200@75 as well, but I generally find refresh rates that low difficult to look at for any longer periods of time.

My long-term plan is to try and get hold of a Dell P1130 is good shape, as I actually had one with my very first computer, but I have to say I could definitely live with just getting a lifetime supply of P991's. 🤣
