Seems to run fine in 2d windows, but in Dos, the characters look like they were run through a replacement cypher.
It was missing an inductor and I replaced it. Should I redo the inductor or does this look like something else?
The card did crash on me after running quake 2 for 2 minutes.

See the repair thread in my signature. That's very certain a memory issue. You can run R3MEMID to identify the faulty channel and then see if there is something wrong / damaged on the board.

At least the diagnosis is relatively straight forward. That'll give you an idea what you'll need to do in the end. Does the pattern change if you press on any of the memory chips?
