Hah, I have a K6-2 mug from back then!

Searching a Nexgen Nx586 with FPU, PM me if you have one. I have some Athlon MP systems and cookies.

Hello sir, this blue one seems suspiciously FX5700-ish. Can you possibly report anything on it? Would be much appreciated here.

If you click to get the larger image you'll see that the blue card is an ASUS V9570 TD 256MB, which is an FX 5700. 😀

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

Certainly is, I bought it unseen and untested for peanuts. Seems to work perfectly so far, though I've only run a few benchmarks.

MAN... you know how sometimes you get really bad sellers on ebay? Well, sometimes you get really good ones too.

I sent an offer on a lot of Athlon XP processors recently. They were being sold as-is, for scrap, but the listing had excellent pictures and showed the front and back of them. I didn't see any broken or even bent pins and the dies looked almost entirely intact. The offer was on the low side so I wouldn't lose out too bad if they all ended up being garbage... but he just took it and before I knew it I had a shipping notification. At that point it was too late to send him a message requesting that they be packed in such a way as to protect them... I try not to do that when a price has already been agreed upon, unless it's something really valuable.

I was worried that they'd just show up loose in an envelope or something, mangled beyond saving...

Today they were delivered and holy cow... he shipped them in a nice box, with the CPUs individually folded into an antistatic bag, with most of them packed pin-to-pin with another to protect the pins, and the folded up pack of processors was wrapped in bubble wrap inside the box.

I'm happy to say that they seem to all be intact except for one that wasn't real important.

There are lots of good chips here... lots of 2400+, 2600+ and 2700+ chips, and some other older ones, but the two reasons I bought the lot are right here:

The attachment AXP3200+.jpg is no longer available

Not too often I find an Athlon XP 3200+, let alone two of them! I'm really hoping at least one of them works. I have a kind of stupid idea to couple an overclocked 3200+ with a late VIA chipset board and a late AGP card to see how far I can stretch one of these systems into the modern era. At some point the lack of SSE2 becomes a total roadblock, but I'd like to test it out anyway. 😁

To be honest, I misread the one chip and thought it was a DKV4D, which would be a 2.33Ghz 333Mhz FSB model... basically the holy grail of Athlon XPs. This is certainly nothing to shake a stick at though. 😁

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

Getting an i7 980x hexa core in the mail tomorow - only 50E, stock cooler included. Very very happy with the purchase, particularly since stealbay prices are a magnitude above that.

Now if I only had a decent maiboard for it. My Gigabyte X58-UD3R is very entry level and not high end CPU friendly. My hexa core Xeons refuse to run on it, and so do X series fast quad cores. Mediocre quad i7's and xeons work OK. It's currently rocking an i7 950, and it will stay that way.

Here's some pics of the 980x and the stock intel tower cooler it came with:

Also picking up some PC's and parts this weekend - all from the recycling center. 2hr drive.

SYHYxI4.jpeg
ASUS Radeon HD4670 AGP with 1GB of ram. Don't yet know if it's the crappy DDR2 version (that should be the 4650 right? Well asus made a "4670" with DDR2 as well) or the proper DDR3 card. If it is DDR3 and it works or I can fix it, it's going straight into my AM2 AGP rig.

bcOq0vB.jpeg
Radeon AIW 7500 - damaged. Cooler came of the GPU - probaby SMD's missing. Not having high hopes for this - already own 2 cards that display artefacts, both with SMDs missing.

rtWt8MB.jpeg
Powercolor Radeon 9800 PRO

Q64dEF1.jpeg
Compaq Slot A kit with 650mhz athlon. If it works I'm soldering an ISA slot on. I also hapen to have a couple of vacant Compaq Deskpro cases I saved from the scrapper. Not the correct one mind you but eh.

vy5pEls.jpeg
Matrox Millentium and Gold Soltek Geforce 3 Ti200

NaL4S9K.jpeg
Soltek Nforce 2 Soltek SL-75MRN-RL - the Geforce 3 ti is probabli form the same machine, the came in the same lot.

wwxIeYz.jpeg
jetway 663AS ultra - KT133A, FSB266 out of the box, ISA slot. Can't ever have enough tually or athlon ISA boards! Comes with CPU (unknown), cooler and SDRAM salad.

ciEgHm4.jpeg
Kyro 4000XT from hercules. Somebody replaced the shitty stock cooler so I have high hopes of it working. I also happen to have a couple of loose coolers for it. One even has the hercules label.

CNpYKf1.jpeg
Gigabyte Radeon 9550 with 2.5ns ram. This thing should do 800MHz on the memory alone. IF it works I'm pairing it with a loos HIS ICEQ-T cooler of a dead radeon 9600.

cJ21zZh.jpeg
Leadtek Gefoce 3 - either regular geforce 3 or a ti500

HoK1g7c.jpeg
HJN54UV.jpeg
Beige box 1 with Pentium 3 and Creative TNT2 Ultra

c35NC5M.jpeg
w3IUkbs.jpeg
Beige box 2 with unknown (possibly 300-350mhz) pentium 2 and Geforce 2 GTS/PRO or (more likely seen as it's passively cooled) GeForce 4 MX440. Compaq branded PSU and mainboard.

257uiSj.jpeg
e8bG1Ys.jpeg
Beige box 3 Silver box - Some Athlon XP on a Shuttle Nforce 2 board, with what looks to be a Palit Geforce 3 Ti200 (not likely) or a Palit Radeon 8500/9100 (most likely, judging by the number of memory ICs). Could also be a Geforce 4, I've seen cards with that cooler, but wrong number of memory ICs. Geforce 4 cards usually have 8 chips, 4 on the front 4 on the rear. This card has 8 on the front like the palit 9100. Cooler is wrong for the 9100, the Geforce 3 and 4 MX from palit and soltek have this cooler. Lastly, it could be a Palit FX5200 dumpster fire. The overall layout (or what I can see of it) matches the 5200 best, but the cooler does not, as the Palit Sonic 5200 is passively cooled, and that's an original everbest cooler that comes with geforce 3 palit / soltek cards. IF it is the 5200, palit makes a really really bad one with 166mhz 6ns ddr. Ram so slow it was probably salvaged off old dimms. A real dumpster fire of a card. Not 64 bit, but might as well be with ram that slow.

q5NgYqA.jpeg
2cHwwyH.jpeg
Cheesy BMW E46 face red box - these used to be really popular here back in the day. Case is in fairly good nick considering it comes from the scrapper. I got te PC for the case and mainboard. No idea what video card, looks low-end(ish). CPU is an Athlon X2 5600+

Oal9tNG.jpeg
Pentium 4 kit - unknown CPU, i845 mainboard (seems like a Jetway), Asus Geforce 6600 AGP (version with slow ram, probably 5ns, 4ns if I'm lucky).

Not pictured:
- Club3d FX5600
- MSI FX5600XT
- Asus FX5200 my vivo
- Gainward Geforce 4 MX 440
- 2GB (4x512) geil DDR400 CL2, blue radiators
- Winfast A170 Geforce 4 MX 460
- Sapphire Radeon X1300 pro PCIe
- Sapphire Radeon x1600 pro PCIe
- Sapphire Radeon x1650 pro PCIe (really wish it was the 24 pipe x1650xt - oh well)
- MSI Geforce 8500GT
- Winfast 7600GS
- AMD K6-III 400AFR - going to @PcBytes
- Soltek i440bx with 2 isa slots - going to @PcBytes
- Asus A7V133 with CPU (unknown), cooler and ram salad - going to @PcBytes

Lovely CPU, I still have the receipt for mine. Quite fond of that stock Intel cooler too.

I wasn't aware of this, Did the board behave this way from new or is it an age thing?

Don't know. Apart from it not liking high-end CPUs, it's rocks solid and it's been pushing a i7 920 d0 to 4ghz stable 24/7 since 2022 when it replaced my c2d qx6700 and became my main XP32 PC.

I had decided to update my Win7 build and just last week my i7-980x arrived from AliExpress. Kind of neat to find other enthusiasts doing the same thing.
I can say it's so much easier to overclock vs my old 920 effortlessly reaching 4.2 and no fine tuning yet.

That's a neat looking case fan! Do you know what the model name is? It has what looks like a startech label on it to me.

That's KT133, not KT133A, Has 686A southbridge so is only good for 200fsb for Athlons. memory will run at 133mhz, not the cpu. You can squeeze a bit more by overclocking, but just not 133 (266) fsb.

A 486 board with PCI slots, I wonder who might have bought this back then...

People who wanted to access the PCI slots. Besides, not all ISA only boards supports 3.3V CPUs, but every board with PCI slots support the 3.3V CPUs.

PCI was around a couple of years before it took off, and there are P5 Pentium classic, 60 and 66Mhz boards with 5V PCI 1.0 so there may be a board or two around that are PCI 1.0 5V for 486 and officially max out with a DX2.... if an AT format board, they are probably recognisable by lack of onboard I/O, which is another pain in the butt about early PCI, since PCI multi i/o cards were super hard to find in 1995, never mind now.

Edit: Here is an example, socket 2, no 3.3V regulator in sight... https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/tekram-g486ip

Sure, but aren't those have an option for 3.3V daughter boards?

Got the 980x and managed to sort out the motherboard issue. Turns out I force-flashed the wrong bios - my board is an EX58-DS3R rev 1, and I force-flashed X58-DS3R rev 1.7 bios. That broke compatibility with all but quad core 45nm chips, as well as most memory modules. Flahsed the correct bios today, 980x and xeon E5645 work like a charm now.

I even managed to the one of my 5645's to 3.486GHz with minimal effort.

Still, the 980x deserves a more premium board, so I'll be looking for one in the near future.

Got some nice projects as the winter is coming 🤪
Commodore still had varta battery installed, ripped it right off. Have to wash and clean it at weekend.
Ibm's are totaly ripped off just cases and psu's and motherboards inside, no memory, processors or drives, one has even riser missing.
Good projects 💪
