I having some troubles getting Dos box to work with a few of my dos games that I have lying around, one of them is scorcher, a CD installed game.

Upon attempting to get this game to run , I note that the mount says that MSCDEX is installed, but upon trying to use install.bat found in the CD, it waits a bit and then says that MSCDEX isn't installed.

Now I'm guessing that there is some incompatibility here, but if anybody else has managed to get scorcher to run in dos box, could you please inform me how? I'm out of ideas and I'm dying to get this game to work again.

Bingo. That did the trick.

Edit: Okay, scorcher seems to be going rather slow. Odd thing is, I had a 133mhz run this, and yet my current computer can hardly cope. What happened?

How many cycles do DOSBox display?

Try

core dynamic

and/or

cycles max

before running the game.

My settings where already set to that.
One odd thing I noticed upon switching builds however:

"vga" is not a valid value for variable: machine.
It might now be reset it to default value: svga_s3

emulating 133 mghz is quite tricky. Your current pc might not be fast enough for that. (remember that DOSBox is an emulator, not a compatibility layer)
