Bah, nevermind... Dos-based programs have problems running with folder names over 9 characters, as was mine, renamed to smaller, and it worked! 😀

Actually i have virtual pc... just cannot figure out the part about how to get the boot file... i think it was vdm file extension. I probably could have figured it out, but I didn't feel like fooling wasting time with it.

Ok, you've lost me completely. What boot file? The plan for running Crusader in "Virtual PC" starts with the presumption that you already have a DOS6 or Win9x setup that runs in "Virtual PC".

What "boot file" are you talking about? A virtual drive? "VDM" is "Virtual Dos Machine", the part of the command prompt in the NT operating system that allows it to partially emulate DOS. So VDM has nothing to do with "Virtual PC" (unless, of course, you're installing an NT O.S. on it...which you wouldn't be doing because you are trying to run Crusader which doesn't run on an NT O.S. yet...).

So...taking a wild guess...by "boot file", you actually mean a Virtual Drive that has a bootable O.S. on it...and by VDM, you actually mean .VHD, the "Virtual Hard Drive" for Virtual P.C.

Is that correct?

So you are talking about installing a bootable OS in "Virtual PC". The documentation that comes with VPC should describe it, but it's basically the same as installing on a "real" PC.

Basically, you create a virtual drive with the program (use the "Virtual Disk Wizard"), then create a virtual PC (PC Setup Wizard).

Grab a DOS or a Win9x bootdisk from http://www.bootdisk.com , then boot from that floppy (leave it in the drive when your start up your Virtual PC). You then use FDISK and FORMAT to prepare a bootable partition. Once you start up Virtual PC you treat like a real PC. FDISKing, then formatting thing the drive with /S parameter will make it bootable. Be aware that you may need more of the OS than that which comes on the bootdisk.

Also, since you're dealing with "real" DOS, it also means you'll need to find yourself a useable mouse driver (Cute Mouse seems capable), and possibly sound card drivers (for the emulated ISA SoundBlaster16).

am running a DOS game called MUGEN.

Update VDMSound with all patches and you might not have to rename the folder:

Especially get the Launchpad update, and use Launchpad to run MUGEN.

Or, if you don't want to or if it does not work, then change the name of the folder for MUGEN.
C:\MUGEN would be nice.
