Hi everyone!
I've recently found this Creative Banshee CT6760 in flea market for next to nothing. After washing it and replacing a couple of broken SMD capacitors, behaviour is very strange, but kind of matches what I've read somewhere here in Vogons & Youtube videos (vswitchzero channel for example 😉)
First of all, computer seems to post like 80% of the times (typical 1 short beep). There are occasions, however, in which board emits the 1long-3short corresponding to no video card. In all cases, there is no VGA output.
When a secondary card is installed, specially in P-III board equipped with AGP card (and set in bios as primary display), and Windows XP -> Banshee card always gets detected no problem, and I can use it as secondary display. Image is sharp and perfect! So memory and GPU should be at least good, I suppose!
Problem comes when I try to update the bios, available in TheRetroWeb and other 3dfx fan portals:
- I've tested so far with the original 3dfx flash tool in every version I've managed to find online. And no success no matter what I do. It does not recognize the bios chip.
- Same with the good old UNIFLASH: by giving it the -pcirom option it manages to detect the card, but not the actual bios chip. This is very weird and never happened to me before.
Given this, does anyone know any other method to try to force bios update? Bios chip is at least confirmed to have good Vcc and GND signals.
If this is not possible, I'm thinking about contacting local shop that repairs industrial equipment to check if they can desolder the EEPROM and solder a socket for me. This will force me to buy a programmer (T48?), what a good excuse to get such a handy device for our retro hobby. Ouch!
Otherwise, I'm not feeling good enough at getting this job done with my current skills and equipment without ruining the card 🙁
Thanks a lot for your advice!
