So yesterday I bought a G3 iMac 350mhz Indigo, and it works great despite being cosmetically horrible. However the slot loading CD drive in it is giving me some issues, I suspected it might be the usual belts getting old but after bodging a belt together I'm still having some issues (I have the proper belts ordered). It feeds and ejects CDs no problem, however when it's in sometimes it just will not spin up at all and then eject the cd. Other discs I've gotten to play straight through whole albums, but certain discs it will (after many tries) read it for a bit and then spin down randomly after only a short period then eject. I've lubricated the optical rails and different points in the mechanism with lithium grease but I just can't figure out why it would randomly decide to eject a disc after successfully reading it. Its driving me crazy.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as of yet facebook groups haven't been much help and I don't dare ask on reddit. 🤣

Maybe there's too much friction somewhere and it refuses to spin up?

My blueberry slot-loader has a similar issue - some CDs just make this horrible grinding noise and after reading for a while it just stops like it's seized up and spits out the disk.
I noticed that it's mostly happening with thicker, pressed CDs instead of thinner burned CD-R's. I tried bending the top-cover slightly up on the slotloader itself and I think it somewhat helped (I managed to install OS9 from a disc) but it could've been placebo.

Do you by any chance have any photos or any idea how to disassemble those?
