I actually just wanted to answer a question of a user on this forum in the old DD2 thread.
However, the old thread was closed and I'm unable to sent private messages to the user who was asking (why does this board disallow me to write personal messages? do I have to spam 50 nonsense posts like on Reddit just to communicate with others? Damn I'm a veteran of the 80s, I don't need this sh*t </rant>).

so back on topic, it's about Destruction Derby 2 and the non working Network part on modern OS's.

The old thread is here:
Destruction Derby 2 Network problem under WinXP/7/10

@TomppaH if you ever manage to read this: I did not get it to work on modern OS's, neither with IPXwrapper nor with other tricks. The only way to play multiplayer is to either use real hard- and software of that time. Or to emulate that with something like 86box/PCem.
I used to emulate a P166mmx setup in 86box, installed Win98 and DD2+network patch. Then cloned it to have two guest-clients that can be run on two Hosts-computers (win10/11) over LAN (ipx/spx) (or WAN with tcp/ip ingame).

I was having some disussions with people who thought they might be able to fix the network issue for modern OS's, however, there has not yet been any update or they simply weren't able to build a fix yet. If anybody else thinks he might be able to contribute to a solution, or might be interested in the game, let's just help together here.

and let's see what future brings. Destruction Derby 2 is still a highly liked and frequently played game in my circle of friends, even 30 years later. If network games could be a bit more accessible for people (other than the emulated boxes way described above), the game could get a big push in popularity again.

Discord user @Wobbly managed to get multiplayer working with Windows 11. Race starts with F1 and it runs smooths. But only problem was then how to connect online 2 or several computers.

Discord user @Wobbly whom I mentioned post above, managed to make permanent 24/7 Ipx server what works through Ipxwrapper and made hosting, joining and racing itself possible in DD2NET.exe for modern systems like Windows 10, 11 etc.

He made ready package, one just need to run "_RUN_DD2NET" and DD2net from dXWnd, everything else is configured. You can download it from here: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/137681 … a1c780c4b59f8d1& or https://limewire.com/d/VrjJ4#EfJsCHhsVU

Menu texts are bit broken but one should see Ipx option in multiplayer menu.

If not, I recommend trying to install: https://npcap.com/dist/npcap-1.82.exe

And also: press Windows + R and run optionalfeatures and check Legacy Components that DirectPlay is ticked

If problems occurs or you want to share how it is, you can post here or send message to @Wobbly on Discord.

I wish everyone fun time with Destruction Derby 2 online multiplayer!

I forgot almost to mention.

If you are trying to host (and want to have ingame music as well), you need to have Pc Destrutction Derby 2 cd inside drive or then mount image file with some virtual disc drive program like Daemon tools or Poweriso.

REMOVED

And it have to be mounted on D-drive.

If you join session, you don't need real cd or mounted image.

Here is permanent Google Drive link for DD2net pack: https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&i … 4PLqO7jqXbHBKAp

I like btw how one can get those CPU colors for cars in multiplayer what is not possible in normal single player mode. All colors should have been enabled to use in original game instead of just 3.
