the game runs normally if i deselect the sound.
i have dos 6.0 too so if someone have some tip it would be a great thing.

i have tried the following :

-1 i have installed the latest version of vdms, run setup ro configure
the sound card (sound blaster) with this program and the game too, but it
suddenly halt on the nuke symbol!!!
-2 i tried with a starter called ACRsetup (gamers hell site) but if i
don't configure any sound card it runs but if i configure the sound blaster
it closes suddenly while checking sound card
-3 dosbox 0.58 doesn't function and dukerock 3.0 too.
-4 i have found a strange thing that seems the source code but that has
a .exe file too...........the game start perfectly the sound and the FX are
very good too but it isn't the game .....you can only move with the
mouse (it seems fly)and no shoot or KILL anyone!!!
-5 then i try to modify directly the settings in this mode:
first I copied the file C:\WINNT\System32\autoexec.nt to the Duke3d
directory and edited that file to change the SET BLASTER command to:
SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 P330 T3
After that command I added:
c:\duke3d\nolfb.com
dosdrv

After saving the autoexec.nt file, I right-clicked on duke3d.exe and
clicked on Properties. On the Program tab I clicked on Advanced. In
the
Autoexec filename box I entered the path to the new autoexec.nt
file.
(It doesn't seem to matter whether any changes are made on the
compatibility tab.)

Of course you have to be sure to run the Duke3d setup to (1) use
Sound
Blaster, IRQ7 for the sound FX card, (2) also set the music card to
Sound Blaster and (3) set the screen to VESA.

as myname suggests!!
but nothing..............the games (audio OK) crashes when the
animation in the back of the main menu starts!!!

please help me!!
i have an c-media 8738 sound card with dos and windows drivers

i'm waiting you reply

Well the first tip would be, use the quick search box at the top of the page. Type Duke3D and hit return, and you'll see that Duke3d has frequently been discussed and would probably answer most of your questions.

Yes. This is because of the PopF instruction that isn't implemented in the Windows 2000 version of the NTVDM. IOW, Duke3D will not work with sound in Win2000 without hacking it first.

Go to my "Problem Children" thread here.
Read the post about BUILD Games
including:
Duke Nukem 3D

Most, if not all of your answers lie there...

That's because all it does is start up your Duke3D with certain parameters and sometimes, an external program. It does not fix the POPF problem.

-3 dosbox 0.58 doesn't function and dukerock 3.0 too.

You need to read more carefully.

http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/information.php

As you can see, DOSBox emulates a 286/386 realmode CPU. Since Duke3D requires a minimum of a 486 processor, there was no way it was going to work. Someday they may be able to implement "protected mode" and it will...but not right now.

3D Realms recently released the source code for Duke3D. This allowed other people to re-compile it for other operating systems (like Windows NT). What you found is almost certainly one of the many new compilations that many different people are making. Since it been less than 2 weeks since the code has been released, you can expect them to all be flawed in some way. It will take some time before you will see a consistently working port of Duke3D.

Do NOT modify your original AUTOEXEC.NT and CONFIG.NT files. Doing so is just asking for trouble, and not necessary.

Correct. That is for Windows programs, not DOS programs.

*blinks* I think part of your text was accidentally deleted as that is an incomplete sentence.

Again, the original Duke3D will not run with audio in Windows 2000 without hacking it first.

You have basically have two choices:
1) Follow the instructions written in the "Problem Children" thread. Follow them carefully. You may or may not need to use NOLFB. That depends on what kind of video card you have. You need to give us that info (as stated in the "Posting Guidelines"). Note that even if you get this working, it will perform poorly compared to Duke3D on DOS or Windows 9x.

2) Wait for a stable, fully-functional Windows NT/2000/XP port of the Duke3D source code. That would allow you to bypass most all of the problems of running Duke3D in Windows 2000. Right now, I can't give any advice on these "ports" as they are all in the very early stages of development.

There is a forum specifically for the development of these programs here: http://forums.3drealms.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb … 25;DaysPrune=75

You can expect a fully-functional version fairly soon, I believe.

Closing thread: DUPE.

(Really, Nicht, I wonder why you give so much brainpower to these dupes.)

Yes, it’s my fault.
