Hello All,

I've been selecting parts for a targeted Socket 7 or a Slot-A build, this is for a project I'm working on. It's for DOS ports of a few games I've written. Obvious Windows 95/98 games will also be used.
(Dosbox-X has dual-head support, which for testing I've been using, but a real hardware run is always something special)

The obvious PCI support is something like the PCI Voodoo or an ATI Radeon 7000 etc,

But for the monochrome choice, I request some information.
I know some of the cards will claim monochrome support, but those are for the actual display outputs and will still map to the B800 segment and color ports.
(I got a Yamaha V6355D-F card for super cheap and it looks like it is like this, unless I am mistaken)

What is a perfect card for this if it's just MDA? Any particular brand/model choices? A lot of these cards claim to have MDA support, but also support Hercules but are vague on this as they either have no jumpers, and some don't explain if they occupy the full graphics segments, crossing into B800 is an obvious no-no.

MDA cards seem to be hard to find, plenty of Hercules cards though, what is a known working make/model that won't conflict?

I searched this forum and there's some hit/misses but I'm curious and would appreciate any input.

You can use any Hercules card.

After power-on, such cards don't use the B800 segment - there's no conflict.
They only use B800 when some software enables the second graphics page - so just avoid such software.

There are also cards with a jumper to completely disable the B800 page, but not very common - I've only encountered one:

J3 enables/disables the B800 page.
